What is a SuperModified

What is a SuperModified??

The winged supermodified is a pure bred racing machine.  Its tube frame is hand built, with special considerations for lightness, strength, and placement of suspension parts.  The car weighs only 1850 pounds and is powered by a 470 cu. in., 700+ horsepower engine which hangs off the left side of the frame for better handling capabilities.  The aerodynamic bodywork and wings are made of aluminum.  The back of most of the wings is connected to air shocks which allows the wings to rotate into a horizontal position in the straightaways, allowing less drag and more speed, and then into a more vertical position in the turns giving the rear wheels more down force and the car a higher cornering speed.  The results of all this technology give the winged supermodifieds the speed of an Indy car and the quickness of a midget.  It's not uncommon  to see a pack of winged supers three and four abreast, darting in and out of traffic and changing lanes in them middle of the turns.  Without a doubt, supermodifieds are the ULTIMATE in short track racing machines.
