CBS Double Dare

Take a risk! Take a chance! Take a dare! Play the game of...

With the host of Double Dare, Alex Trebek!

This show was completely unrelated to the Double Dare most people are familiar with. On this show, two contestants competed against each other. Each player was in an isolation booth. The subject of a certain person, place or thing was revealed, and clues were presented to the players, one at a time, with progressing clues getting easier. The first person to buzz in with a guess sealed the opponent from the answer; correct guesses were worth $50. With a correct guess, the contestant could choose to "dare" the other player to give a correct response from the next clue. If the opponent failed to give the correct answer, the daring player won $100; otherwise, the opponent won $50. Should the opponent fail to provide a right answer, the daring player was given the option to "double dare" the opponent, with possible dollar amounts worth twice the dare clue. If a player buzzes in with an incorrect answer, the opponent looks at the next clue (a "penalty clue") alone; if incorrect, they moved onto the next clue for both players; if correct, the penalty clue becomes a dare clue. The first player to reach $500 won the game, and had a chance to face the "Spoilers", three Ph.D's. The correct answer was given to everyone except the Spoilers. The player then selected one of eight clues to the subject. The player could either pass on the clue (up to four passes can be used) or give it to the Spoilers. Each time a Spoiler gave a correct answer, he/she won $100 and sat out the rest of the bonus game. Each time a Spoiler failed to give the correct answer, the player won $100. If at least one Spoiler fails to give a correct answer after four clues, the player won $5000.
