Thomas Crawford

Thomas Crawford (my Great Great Grandfather) was born to Benjamin and Sarah (nee Jones) Crawford on the 25th June 1837 in Bromsgrove, England. He was one of 11 children. Thomas married Charlotte Lewis on 2nd Novemebr 1857 at Bromsgrove, they had six children. He was the president of the Bromsgrove Nailforgers Protection Association. Thomas emigrated to Australia in June 1882 on the "Camorta" with the eldest children and Charlotte sailed two weeks later on the "Roma" with Benjamin their youngest child. They lived in Brisbane Queensland Australia

William and Hetty Crawford

William Henry Crawford (My Great Grandfather) was born to Thomas and Charlotte on the 1st July 1862 in Bromsgrove. He was a good fottballer in his youth and had represented Bromsgrove. He sang well as a Tenor and in later years was very proud of the fact he had sung before the Queen. He married Harriet Locker on the 10th March 1884 at Brisbane Queensland Australia and they had 8 children, of which only five survived. He was in partnership with his cousin Robert Crawford, Bee-keeping in Tamworth NSW Australia. He moved to Brisbane in 1916. Later moving to Mount Tamborine where he built the family home "ASHGROVE" it is from here that the story of the fig tree begins.

ASHGROVE

Ashgrove, the family home of Will and Hetty, named after the suburb in Brisbane where they lived when they first moved to Queensland. There is now a street in Ashgrove which bears the name "Crawford" after them. Built in about 1926 it is on the corner of Long and Wongawallan Roads. Willaim had extensive gardens around the home with with various flowers and fruit trees. The house is now "Lionel's Antiques".
