When you first begin the game you will have the choice to either "wait" in battle(when you turn arises the enemy can't attack until you have made a decision. Your friends ATB (Active Time Bar) will still fill so you may use combos. Or you can be "active" (your enemies will attack even if you're not ready. For strategists and beginners I'd suggest "Wait". For those seeking a challenge I'd suggest "Active". When you choose what style of fighting you want you will be asked to name your character. "Crono" will be selected by default, but you can choose a different name that's up to 5 letters.

    Millenial Fair

Your mom will wake you the first day of the Millenial Fair. Go downstairs and you will be given an opportunity to name "Lucca". Talk to her again to pick up your allowance. Walk to the Mayor's House (whenever you walk in front of a building or important area the name will appear)Inside the staff will help you out(think of the Mayor's House as a tutorial site) Inside you should find a Tonic and 100g. Now head on out to the Millenial Fair. You can earn "Silver Points" at the fair. It's a good idea to collect 40 and head up to the tent in the upper right on the first level. Spend your 40 points and try to earn a Crono Doll(trust me you'll want it later). Probably the easiest way to earn Silver Points is to fight Gato. Gato is the training robot created by Lucca. Go up to the second level of the fair and down the left stairs.

You may see the lunch on the table, but leave it alone. Up a little farther is a cat. Talk to it once and walk over to the other side to return the cat. You'll see someone running around the bell. You'll eventually run into her. You'll see her pendant fly off, but before you grab it talk to the girl first. After you speak with her grab her pendant and return it to her. She'll ask if she can walk around the fair with you. Say yes and Marle will join your team. Now you'll have a chance to name "Marle". Now go back to the fair's entrance and talk with the merchant in blue. He'll sell you weapons and armor. He'll ask you to talk Marle into selling her pendant, but say no. Even if you say yes she won't give it up.

If you'd like to earn some experience points exit the fair and walk to Guardia Forest. If not just walk around until Lucca's machine is ready. When attempting to enter Lucca's stand Marle will want some candy. Wait for her to buy her candy and then walk to Lucca's stand. After a little speech no one will want to try the Telepod. Walk onto the left pod and you will be teleported to the other side. The crowd will be amazed. Talk to Marle and she'll want to try it. Something goes wrong and Marle will be pulled into a portal. She'll disappear and the crowd will walk away. Marle's pendant will be left behind. Pick it up and you'll follow Marle to 600 A.D.

    The Queen Returns

When you appear in 600 A.D. You'll be attacked by 3 Blue Imps. They are easily defeated so you shouldn't worry. Walk around and collect the items laying around in the chests. You might also want to fight the local enemies for experience points. You'll expect the forest in the future spot of the Millenial Fair. You may want to visit the local inn to heal. It only costs 10g so don't worry much about cash. Walk through Guardia Forest and fight the local monsters not only for expereince points, but for cash. After you earn at least 1000g(this is only a suggestion) walk to Guardia Castle.

Inside the castle the guards will stop you, but the Queen will let you in. Walk into the throne room and speak with the King. He'll allow you to rest in the Knights Quarters whenever you wish. Walk up the right stairwell and go to the Queen's Quarters. She'll dismiss her servants and speak with you alone. She'll reveal herself to be Marle.(The palace guards found her in the mountains were you appeared and mistook her to be the Queen.)

After speaking a bit the screen will grow dark. Marle mysteriously disappears in front of your face.

    The Queen is Gone

Walk downstairs and you'll meet up with Lucca. Lucca will explain how Marle disappeared.(Hint: It has something to do with time!) Now Lucca will join you. Spend some time in the forest to train Lucca(Her power rating sucks!) Walk to the local store and pick up the latest weapons and armor. Now walk to the Cathedral. Inside the Cathedral talk with all the nuns (The one by the organ should be last). After you do something by the altar will glow. Walk over and pick it up.

You'll be attacked by a group of Naga-ettes. If you've learned the Fire Whirl combo use it against them. Time it just right so you can get two at a time. After you defeat them one more will attack you, but you'll be saved by a frog. After a chat you'll be asked to make a decision. Go with the frog and you can now name Frog. If you didn't before go to the Market and stock up on Tonics and Shelters. When you're done walk to the organ and play it. Walk through the door that opens and prepare yourself. Inside will be more Naga-ettes and pig-like guards. Traverse through the cathedral and search all the rooms. You'll find many valuable items throughout the lair. Before you fight the Yakra you should find the next sword for Crono and learn the X-Strike. After completing this save before the final room and heal. Inside you'll fight the Yakra. It's close to a severly mutated mole. Have Crono and Frog use X-Strike while Lucca heals your party!

Soon you'll bring the Yakra to its knees. The queen will thank you and a few treasure chests will drop. Open the left one to free the real chancellor. You'll automatically return to Guardia Castle! The King and Queen will thank you for your heroic efforts. Frog will leave feeling he has failed his queen. Return to the Queen's room and Marle will return. Return to Guardia Forest and Lucca will open the portal to return to 1000 A.D.

    We're Back

Lucca will ask you to return Marle home to Guardia Castle(she's really the Princess of your time!) When you return to Guardia Castle Marle will be welcomed with open arms, but you'll be branded as a terrorist and be arrested!

    The Trial

This is where your actions at the Millenial Fair come back at you. If you've followed all the suggestions above you'll be proven Not Guilty. You'll be placed in jail no matter what your actions are. When the Chancellor speaks with the Warden he will arrange your execution despite your verdict.

You will now have 2 choices. You can wait for the day of your execution or escape on your own. If you wish to wait Lucca will free you. If you want to break out drink from the mug and beat on your cage 3 times. A guard will open the gate and "teach you a lesson". As he's walking out walk up behind him and knock him out (use the A button). Fight the guard and make your way through the prison.

When you reach the Warden's office Lucca will arrive(if you broke out). Read the paper that fell on the floor and walk out. You'll have to fight the Dragon Tank in order to escape. Use normal attacks and destroy the head first if you wish to survive. Run down the stairs to the throne room and meet Marle again. Run out of the castle and you'll be cut off by the guard. Lucca will open the Gate to travel to 2300 A.D.

    Beyond the Ruins

When you walk out of the Dome you'll see the world has been totally devastated. Walk up to Lab 16 and fight your way through. Beware the rats because they will steal items from you. When you reach Arris Dome you'll find people starving and hungry. Talk with the elder to discover one of the men went to the food storage room for food. Buy new weapons and armor and rest before you go downstairs.

The basement isn't very large so don't worry about getting lost. When you reach the storage entrance you'll be attacked by the Guardian. Two Bits will help protect the Guardian so take them out first. Attack the Guardian with regular attacks because it retaliates to combos. A countdown from 5 will begin and at 0 the Bits will be revived. Continue the attacks and you'll bring the Guardian down.

Inside the storage room you'll find a dead guy holding a note and a seed. Take the seed and read the note. When you reach the girders again you'll see the rat. Chase it around until you catch it(This might take several tries). When you catch the rat it will reveal a password. When you reach the room where you first entered the basement use the password on the console and find out what happened to the world.

Take the seed up to Doan and you'll recieve the Bike Key. You need to head on over to Lab 32. A robot named "Jonny" will challenge you to a bike race across the lab. Once on the other side walk to the Proto Dome to find "Robo". Lucca will fix him up and you'll get a chance to name him. You must leave either Marle or Lucca in order to accomidate Robo. Head over to the Factory so you can open Proto Dome's inner door to reach the Gate.

    The Factory Ruins

Once inside the factory go up to the computer to have Robo disable the security beam. Make your way through the ruins until you encounter the R-Series Guardians. To defeat them have Crono use Cyclone and if you chose Marle have her use Aura to heal. After defeating the R-Series you'll automatically return to Proto Dome. You'll all enter the Gate and travel to the End of Time.

    The End of Time

The End of Time isn't what it sounds to be. Think of it as a crossroads to all the time periods you will travel to. When you arrive talk to the old man. You need to leave a team member behind so leave Robo behind. Walk towards the left door, but the old man will want to chew your ear some more. Talk to him again and he'll open the door. Talk to the creature inside, Spekkio, and walk around the room 3 times. Be sure to touch all the corners and you'll learn magic.

Every team member except for Robo will be able to learn magic. Now enter the right room and use the Gate inside to return to 1000 A.D. If you value your life you'll leave the orb inside the Central Room alone.

    The Village of Magic

When you return to 1000 A.D. you'll pop out of a monster's cupboard. Exit the house and head to the southwest tip of the Continent to find Melchior's Hut. Buy the lastest weapons and armor from Melchior. Also stock up on Mid-Tonics before you head to Heckran Cave.

Battle your way through the cave until you meet Heckran. Use Magic on him because physical attacks won't harm him. Use the warp you find to travel to Lucca's House. Return to Leene Square(The Millenial Fair) and use the Gate to return to the End of Time. Use the top-right Gate to return to Truce Canyon 600 A.D

    The Hero Appears

Walk to the World Map and make your way towards Zenan Bridge near the bottom of the Continent. Talk to the Captain who will tell you they out of rations. Return to Guardia Castle and find the chef in the right basement. When you're about to leave the castle the chef will stop and give you the Jerky and a Power Tab. Return to Zenan Bridge and give the Jerky to the soliders. They'll ask you to fight and you'll accept.(You really don't have a choice if you want to get to the Southern Continent.) Make your way across the bridge and be prepared to fight Zombor. This foe has two parts with 1,000 HP a piece. If you've learned Antipode use it on the top half. Use your Techs and normal attacks on the bottom half and be sure to heal yourself when needed.

    Tata and the Frog

When back on the World Map find the Cursed Woods and enter. Walk up as far as you can and fall in the darkened bush to find Frog. Talk to Frog until he sends you off. Head out to the Denadoro Mts. and find the broken Masamune. In order to get the sword you need to fight Masa and Mune. Use Crono's Slash to take out one of the brothers. Attack the other with your strongest attack until he's defeated. Masa and Mune will morph into one being. Keep attacking and healing until you defeat him. You'll receive the Broken Sword for your efforts. Now find Tata's house and obtain the Hero Medal. Return to Frog's and get the Broken Hilt by talking to Frog. Take the broken pieces to Melchior in 1,000 A.D.

    The Rare Red Rock

Melchior will tell you he needs a rare stone that can only be found in 65,000,000 B.C. Return to the End of Time and travel back to 65,000,000 B.C.

    Footsteps! Follow!

When the gate closes on you you'll automatically have to fight some Reptites. Ayla will introduce herself to your party. Follow her from Mystic Mts. and head to the Chief's Hut. Ayla will challenge you to a soup drinking contest in order to get the Red Rock. If you don't win the first contest just keep accepting her challenge. Eventually she'll be full and she'll just hand the stone over. When you wake up in the morning you'll discover the Gate Key is missing. Find Ayla in the Chief's Hut. She'll join up with you to recover the Gate Key.

Find the Forest Maze and fight your way to the Reptile Lair. Search the Reptile Lair and fight Nizbel to recover the Gate Key. Have Crono use Lightning and Ice Sword while Ayla attacks. Use Marle as a healer.

    The Masamune!

After reclaiming the Gate Key return to Mystic Mts. and head back to the End of Time. Take the stone to Melchior and he'll repair the Masamune. Return to the End of Time and head to 600 A.D. and head to Frog's Lair. Now that you have the Masamune and the Hero's Badge Frog will rejoin your party. Return to the End of Time so Frog can learn Water magic. Head to the Magic Cave (in 600 A.D.) which is directly right from Fiona's Villa. Frog will open a secret passage to Magus' Lair.

    Magus' Castle

Inside Magus' Castle be sure to have Frog equip the Masamune. Also the optimal team is Crono, Frog, and Lucca. Fight your way through Magus' Castle and be sure you're properly equipped. As you fight your way through the castle you'll fight Magus' generals. The first one you'll fight is Flea. Use X Strike against as much as possible.

Another of Magus' lackeys you'll have to fight is Slash! Basically fight the same way you did with Slash! Equip the sword you get from him! You'll find a teleport in the room where you first entered. This will begin a long chain of events of where you must chase Ozzie down! When you finally corner Ozzie don't attack him! Instead attack the chains in the room and eventually Ozzie will fall!

Now for the big boss himself! Magus is quite difficult as he can spontaniously change his weakness! Watch the screen carefully for his Magic weakness! Eventually Magus will change his attack and will go all out! You should do the same! Don't worry about the weaknesses anymore. There're gone! When Magus uses Dark Matter heal your party before fighting again! When you finally defeat Magus a huge Gate will open and everyone sucked in!

    Forward to the Past

When you awaken you'll find youself in 65,000,000 B.C. Kino will tell you that Ayla has headed to the elusive Laruba Village! Go follow her! On the World Map head up and left to the forest to find Laruba Village! At the ruins you'll find Ayla talking to the village chief! They'll mention something about the Reptites and Ayla will run off! Follow her to the Dactyl Nest and meet on the top. Ayla will now join your party permanetly!

    Unnatural Selection?

Hop on the Dactlys and head for the Tyrano Lair! Have Crono, Marle and Ayla in your party. Stock up on Ethers as you'll need them! Fight your way through the Lair to rescue Kino and the village! If you're having trouble have Crono use Lightning 1 or 2! When you finally find Azala you have to fight him. He hops on his Black Tyrano to try and stop you! Use Haste on your party and use Volt Bite and Ice Sword 2 to defeat Azala!

When you defeat Azala the Black tyrano's defense will go down. Attack it with everything you got! When it breathes fire use Aura Whirl to heal your party! When you finally defeat the Black Tyrano Azala will appear for the final time! He will mention that the Red Star will usher in the Ice Age! Kino will arrive on the Dactyl to save you! The Red Star is actually Lavos and he will crash into the Tyrano Lair! In the ruins of the Lair you'll find a Gate. Go throught it!

    The Magic Kingdom

When you exit the Gate you'll find yourself in the late Ice Age! Walk outside and you'll see the world is covered in snow! Walk around until you see a strange dome. Enter it and walk onto the paltform! You'll find yourself being levitated into the sky. You'll arrive in another dome like the one before! You don't hear any wind outside and it seems to be sunny! Walk outside and you'll find yourself in the Magical Kingdom of Zeal!

Search around the kingdom for a while and buy new weaponry and items.
