Prisoner's Cry

By Jayge Coinstar

Earth and wind be mine
as fire in my eyes,
as water through my veins.
Let me sore with the sky-ones,
let me swim like the fish,
grant me only one desire,
for only one thing I wish.

I wish to be free,
as free as a bird.
Let me fly away,
and let my voice be heard.
Oh, I never knew that the grass smelled so sweet
and I know where I belong - with the earth beneath my feet.

Let me be free,
free as a cloud;
to take any form
and to stay where I will
with a sight all my own.

What have I done that you won't come for me?
I learned so much from my time here.
I've learned how to see.
Please...let me be free some day.
I've dreamed that I could fly away,
but sometimes my dreams won't stay,
and if they wish to fade away they may.

Earth and wind be mine,
I'm begging at your shrine,
and you always keep me going,
and make sure I keep on knowing,
that though these binds today may be,
someday I'll be so free.
