Peace During A Storm
THIS WEEK'S SCRIPTURE MEMORY VERSE: "Consider it pure joy,
my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know
that the testing of your faith develops perseverance" (James 1:2-3).
"He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed"
(Psalm 107:29)
Obedience brings peace where disobedience brings stormy emotions.
When I was little, thunderstorms scared me. I would always be sure
and ask God to forgive me of my sins during the storm so if I was
killed by lightning, I knew I would be covered. :)
When we go through the storms of life, we must remember that we are
covered! Storms are on the outside. If you will obey God's Word and
apply it to every aspect of your life, then when it starts to storm on
the
outside, you'll be safe on the inside. Why? Because Jesus is in your
heart and He will cry out on your behalf, "Peace! Be Still!"
The storms of life all happen on the outside. Only we decide how they
will affect us on the inside. Storms on the outside are no match for
obedience on the inside. But if you are not obeying God and it starts
to storm, don't expect to weather the storm safely.
Application: 1. Write down your top three "life-storms" that are
challenging you today. 2. Spend a few minutes praying for each one
and specifically ask God to calm either your heart or the storm.
Dear Lord, when circumstances of life disturb me, calm me down.
Remind me through the gentleness of Your Holy Spirit that storms are
only on the outside as You are on the inside giving me peace. In Jesus'
Name, AMEN!
