Welcome!

Our Camp is housed each summer on the serene, three-acre campus of the Natural Learning Montessori Academy. We are located in Shawnee Hills, across the Scioto River from the Columbus Zoo.

We have fun here all summer long, and we want to welcome your family to see and experience our warm, friendly and inviting "Old Time Summer" experience.

General Information

  • Our Camp begins on June 16th and runs through August 15th. We are a Day Camp, offering separate programs for children ages 3 through 12.
  • Our programs are informal, encouraging language development, socialization and creative expression, sciences, and geography for our Children's House Ages 3 - 5.
  • Our Elementary includes ages 6 - 8, Junior Campers and ages 9 - 12, Senior Campers and emphasizes arts, sciences, social interaction, team-building sports, and movement experiences.
  • We also offer Hands-On experiential tutoring in math and reading with Montessori-certified teachers.
  • To top it off, we offer indoor / outdoor social activities both before and after Camp.
    (Be sure to reserve a spot for extended care at no extra cost.)

Guidelines

  • Drop-Off time is 9:45 - 10:00.
  • Pick-Up time is 3:00 - 3:15.
  • Extended Care morning hours are 7:30 - 9:45 am & afternoon hours are 3:00 - 5:30 pm.
  • Reserved Extended Care is free of charge (One-day notice required).
  • Unreserved Extended Care is $5.00/hr, for any part of an hour used.
    (Coupons will be made available.)
  • Our behavior towards each other and our environment is respectful. We are always in the process of learning and practicing the skills that support this Goal. This is part of camp curriculum. This is a big part of what makes us special.

Children's House

Splashing * Playing * Creating

...in a safe and peaceful environment. This is our Pre-School program, with children ranging from ages 3 - 5. The program is informal and play-based, with some use of Montessori learning teechniques and materials. We have a 9:1 student/teacher ratio, with professional, loving teachers leading the group. We create a very safe and fun learning experience, emphasizing social and emotional skills. We incorporate developmentally-appropriate math, reading, science, art, and even geography.

Bring a bathing suit, towel, water bottle, sunscreen and bag lunch every day. Be sure to label with your Child's name!

Daily Schedule

  • 9:45 - 10:15 * Arrival Time, open-ended play.
  • 10:15 - 10:45 * Circle Time, get-acquainted songs and games. (Nutritious snacks)
  • 10:45 - 11:45 * Outdoor Activities, including water play.
    Large Muscle activities are set up for rainy days.
  • 11:45 - 12:30 * Clean-Up time, and Lunch.
  • 12:30 - 1:00 * Quiet Time - stories, music, resting bodies.
  • 1:00 - 2:30 * Art, math, science, & geography, Snacks!
  • 2:30 * Clean-up and get ready to go Home.
  • 2:45 * Story Time.
  • 3:00 * Pick-Up Time.

Field Trips and Special Days

Each Tuesday morning is Wacky Wheels Day.
Bring your child's scooter, bike, or skates. Please bring helmets and protective gear as well. We'll set up obstacle courses, decorate, zoom, and parade. Fun fun fun on wheels!
Each Friday morning is Safari Time.
We like to take a field trip to the Columbus Zoo. Leaving Camp at 10:00 and having lunch at the Zoo in the picnic area, and returning by 12:20. We focus on one area of the Zoo that fits the theme of that Camp Week. (For example, on Water Works Week we would visit the Aquarium.) We will need Volunteer Moms and Dads to drive and accompany us to make this possible.

Junior Campers, Ages 6 - 9

Explore the World, make new Friends
Playing, creating, building, dreaming

A camp with self-discovery, friendships, and choices. Whether indoors or outdoors, NLMA offers a variety of activities in the areas of arts, sports, science, and nature. Weekly-themed, with experienced camp leaders. Children have a choice of gardening, water play, woodworking, dramatic play, volleyball, putt-putt golf, open-ended sports, cheerleading, creative music, etc.

Friday Field Trips
We will take a field trip every Friday. Each week, we will visit a place of interest off-site. Some of our favorite fun field trips have been to Olentangy Indian Caverns for exploring, and Scioto Park ("Leatherlips") for fishing. Additional costs may apply.

Intriguing and amazing discoveries of the planet Earth. Kids uncover the mysteries and mazes of the world around them, from Ant Farms to the Tornado.
Spy Kids

Loosely based on ideas from the movie, kids play Secret Agent while uncovering the secrets of different places around the globe.

Senior Campers, Ages 9 - 12

Real World, Fun Friends, Activities

Our 9 - 12 camp offers kids real opportunities to try new things, improve skills, and build life-long friendships. NLMA offers weekly themes with hands-on speciality teachers, and activities to challenge and inspire young people. Camp activities include Volleyball, putt-putt golf, Cheerleading, and Team-building sports.
