Venus Senki is a NES game based on the anime of the same name. It revolves around a conflict on Venus, which has been modified to support human life under certain conditions since Earth somehow was destroyed/rendered inhospitable/whatever. The force you play as is a team of 8 motorcycle jockeys and 2 tankers to fight the army that has occupied the planet and is probably exploiting citizens. The game consists of 2 main parts. The first part is the overhead map where the units are moved as in a turn based strategy game. The other occurs when 2 units overlap, when they fight in a Rad Racer style scrolling map with just your unit and the enemies, unless one is a tank or your tankers. The tanks go to a different overheaed view with your cycle and the tank filling about half the screen. You can move around and shoot the guns off and eventually find a weak point. If your tanker is in a battle, the CPU simulates a fight based on statistics, and shows the outcome in a quick animation. There is an English translation, and the game is not fully translated. This is not a game to be brushed aside. It could have done well in America if it had been released here.

Mini-FAQ

First, the controls. MAP: A: select unit, confirm move B: cancel select D-Pad: move cursor
Battle: A: fire gun B: Fire GMI rocket(more powerful and seeking) Battles last a minute and if you destroy all enemy units before time runs out that unit is removed from the map. GMI and health can be replenished by parking next to a tanker for a turn or 2.

In the battlefield, there are always 3 vehicle types 1; your cycle 2; Rovers, which appear consistently in all battles sans tank fights, are worth 1 EXP and change colors depending upon the mission. 3; the specialty vehicle, usually depicted on the icon on the battlefield. They are worth far more EXP and are usually stronger than the Rovers. Use GMI's if your charecter does not have a strong enough attack power. Sometimes, in extreme cases, your charecter may be so weak that 2 GMI's are needed. If so, focus on getting them way more EXP. They'll need it.

Tanks:
A2: first tank found in the game. Shoot off the guns, use GMI's for guns your shots cant reach. The treads are the weak point.
Z1: more difficult tank, same as above, but the back where the rear gun was is the weak point after it is shot off.
G3: Supertank. Has a flamethrower. Cockpit to left of the screen is the weak point. Watch for missiles from cannon.
Remember first to shoot off all the guns you can. Then use GMI rockets to get the ones inside the shell. The front cannon and the flamethrower cannot be destroyed. Hit the weak point with hit-and-run tactics. The tank will follow you around, so if you need to hit the back, sit near the bottom of the screen. When it sinks low, run behind and fire until it almost pins you, then run to the side. Adjust for your playing and enemy tanks.
