Play Japanese Games
To modify your N64 to play Japanese games, push open the tabs that close over the cartridge slot, and look in the back. Use a knife or screwdriver to remove the tabs that stick out about 1/4" from the back of the catridge slot. If you have a special screwdriver (usually found on eBay or import shops) that opens the hexagonal screws, you can dismantle the N64 and pull out the catridge slot, making this operation easier.
