OK, so each team went out with a plan. The Norwegians went out to the instructions of "Put the big men up front; don't keep them there of course; keep them in defence. But if it looks likely we can maybe get a break - the big men charge forward and hit a long, long ball to them. Bound to score that way and WIN the game. However, if things look like not going quite our way, try to fall down a lot. Not easy if you're 6'5" and built like a brick, but try it anyway. If necessary, produce blood." The Yugoslavs, "Be cynical. Fall at every possible opportunity. Niggle. Trip. Pinch. Elbow. (Try doing that in pairs). Assault from behind. (If anybody notices, touch your "Fair Play" badge with deep feeling and shrug appealingly at the ref). If we get away with it, we will be looked upon as heroes; if not, then as martyrs." Add to that a referee who didn't know what time of day it was, and mayhem and chaos is bound to follow. This was NOT a pretty game! However, I am glad the Norwegians lost, because they are so very negative. As for the Yugoslavs, well I don't condone their methods, they are not exactly sportmanlike - but they deserved to win this game. They could've done it without all the theatrics and thuggery though. Spain will find them difficult opponents. Anybody know what happened to Iversen???? And that poor boy who got sent off! WHY, Mr Dallas?? His foul was probably the most innocuous of the lot!! | ||
