Chapter Twenty

"Are you sure there's no way I can get out of it?" Justin asked desperately into the phone. "But for two months?! I promised Megan that I'd be here for her and - I know that I have a job to do, but I also have twins coming in a few months!" He tried to be as quiet as possible because Megan was in the next room sleeping but it was difficult because he was extremely agitated. "Ok! Alright, I'll be there." He hung up the phone and ran his fingers through his hair.

Being away from Megan for two months was going to be hell on earth. He didn't want to leave her home alone even to go to the store, now he was going to have to leave for two whole months?! He contemplated making her come with him, but she had to stay in Orlando because that was where her doctor was. Plus she already hated flying, so putting her on a plane while she was pregnant would definitely prove to be a difficult feat. He would just have to leave her here, alone, by herself.

He crept into the bedroom and carefully sat on the bed. He had always loved to watch her sleep. When her dark, curly hair fell around her head and how her full lips became even more pouty made him crazy. He leaned over and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. He laid kisses around her face until her green eyes fluttered open.

"Hey?" She whispered stretching her arms over her head. "How long have I been sleeping?"

"Not too long." She noticed the troubled look in his eyes.

"What's wrong, Love?" He shook his head and rubbed away the frustrated tears that were coming to his eyes. "Justin, what is it."

"I just got a call from Johnny." He said. He groaned angrily and ran his hand over his face "We have to go on tour for two months, I have to go to California to start rehearsals."

"What?" Megan sat up and leaned against the headboard of their sleigh bed. "But I thought?"

"So did I baby, but there was a change of plans." He said. "I feel horrible leaving you here, I made a promise to you and I can't keep it."

"But, I just, I wanted." Justin sighed and pulled her to him. He hated to see her cry especially when it was because of him.

"I'm so sorry baby." He whispered. "I'll call you everyday and if we have even one day off I'll be on the first plane home to see you. I promise."

"When do you leave?" She asked.

"Tomorrow."

"Well, I'll be OK." She wiped away the few tears that running down her cheeks. "The girls will all be here and I'll have plenty to do around the house."

"Megan, it's ok to be upset about this, you don't have to put on an act for me." He said knowing that she was putting up her guard. "I'm just as upset about this as you are."

"I'm not upset Justin." She said firmly. "I know that this is your job and sometimes promises are going to be broken. I've always known that."

"But you know that I would never make a promise to you that I don't intend to keep, right?" She nodded. He pulled her into his lap and rested his hands on her slightly rounded stomach, nonchalantly moving them back and forth. "I tried to get out of it Meg, but Johnny said that I had to go."

"I know Justin. I just really wanted you to be here." She said. "This is something that is special and we should experience it together. By the time you get back, I'll be in my 6th month."

"I'll be here when they're born though." He vowed. "Wild horses couldn't keep me away then."

"I don't know what I'm going to do without you here?" She said linking her hand with his.

"You'll miss me like crazy and think about me nonstop. Just like I'll be doing." He smiled. "But it's like I said, I'll call everyday. I promise." He sealed his promise with a kiss. As his lips moved over hers, Megan ran her fingers through his thick curly hair.

"I'm going to miss you so much." Megan mumbled against his lips.

"I know baby." His hands cupped her face. "We just need to make tonight extra special."

"I like that idea." She smiled as their lips met in an ardent kiss.

Justin reached over and hit his alarm clock causing the loathsome sound to cease. He glared at the clock through the one eye he had forced open and groaned. 5:30. He had only gotten three hours of sleep that night. Justin stretched his arms over his head and winced as a pain ripped down his back. His muscles were solid. He was sore all over. It had been worth it though. He smiled and rolled over to face Megan. He ran a finger over her still flushed cheek and kissed her forehead. All he really wanted to do was lay in bed and hold her but he had to get up. He had a job to do. Even if that job kept him away from Megan, he still had to do it.

"Megan, wake up baby." He whispered. "I have to leave soon."

"Hmmm, No." She snuggled against him. "Don't go."

Justin smiled and wrapped his arms around her. "I have to."

"I want to go with you." She mumbled.

"I want you to go too, but it'll be better for you here." He tried to reason. "Two months will fly by, you'll see."

"I guess." Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled up at him. "I'm just gonna miss you, that's all, don't go Justin. Stay here with me."

"I guess I could quit my job." He smiled.

"You couldn't go one day without singing."

"I don't know how I'm going to go one day without you." He pressed his lips to hers. Her body melted as he touched her, the affect he had on her was undeniable. She was putty in his hands. Instinctively, her hand slid behind his neck as her fingertips brushed through his hair and she returned to him every bit of passion he was giving her in his breathtaking kiss. Slowly he stopped and lifted his head away from hers just far enough to stare into her soft green eyes.

"My God, you're beautiful." He spoke softly, brushing the back of his hand down her warm cheek. He placed another kiss on her lips. "I love you so much."

"Ditto." She winked. Her smile dropped a little as he pulled himself away from her and headed to the bathroom.

As much as she was going to miss him, she knew that he was leaving to do what he really loved. She had never seen him happier than when he was on stage singing his heart out to thousands of his adoring fans. She only wished she could be there to experience it with him. Since their relationship began almost two years ago, she hadn't been away from him for longer than a few days. Now he was going away for two months and she would be left alone; the house already seemed empty even though he was still there.

Megan climbed out of the bed and pulled her hair into a loose bun on her head. She went into the bathroom where Justin was shaving and wrapped her arms around his waist from behind. She buried her face in his back and inhaled his scent. That was what she was going to miss the most; his unmistakable redolence. It was a mixture of Woods cologne, soap and Justin.

"You should go back to sleep baby, it's still early." Justin said wiping his face with a towel.

"I'm not going to be able to go back to sleep. It won't be the same without you next to me." Megan wrapped her arms tighter around him. He took her hands that were wrapped around him and brought them to his lips. "It's going to be too hard for me."

"See that's where you're wrong my love." Justin turned in her arms and held her face. "You know that even when I'm not here," He gestured towards the house. "You know that if you ever need me all you have to do is call."

"It's not the same though." Megan pouted.

"I know baby. It's never been this hard for me to leave anyone." He whispered.

"I'm going to miss you so much."

Justin's hands plunged into her hair as he pressed his lips to hers. As he made the kiss deeper, his fingertips danced over her face as if he was trying to memorize every inch of her smooth skin. He murmured his love for her in between kisses but was forced to pull away from her when they heard a car horn from outside.

"Baby, I, have to, go." Justin mumbled as he tried to pull away but was tugged back when Megan grabbed his shirt collar.

"Let him come to the door." Megan said. "I want you to myself for as long as possible."

"Baby, the sooner I leave, the sooner I can get back."

"No, the sooner you leave the longer you'll be gone." She shot back.

"You're such a pessimist." He teased. Megan stuck her tongue out at him but smiled anyway. The doorbell rang just then and both of their smiles dropped.

"Are you coming downstairs with me?"

"I don't think I can watch you leave." She said ruefully. Justin frowned but pulled her into one last despairing kiss.

"I love you." He said as he pulled away.

"I love you too."

"I'll see you soon."

Justin entered his hotel room after another concert and set his suitcase on the floor. He plopped onto the bed and immediately tears formed in his eyes. He shut them to keep them from falling but there was nothing he could do, they soon poured down his cheeks, some stopping at the corners of his mouth, others reaching his chin, then falling to the ground. He had managed to hold back his tears from the guys and Johnny, but now he just couldn't take it anymore.

He wasn't usually one to cry, but he felt as if his soul was empty. Without her, nothing seemed right, everything was out of place, utterly meaningless. Everything but the music. He could never forget music; it was who he was. It had only been 3 days since he'd seen or talked to her, but it seemed like an eternity to him. Every time he tried to get in touch with her, she was never home, and it was the same when she tried to reach him. The only comfort he could have was to hear her voice and that would get him through a thousand days.

Justin pulled out his cell phone and dialed the number without thinking. Just before he was going to give up on talking to her and hang up the phone, Megan's tired voice came over the line.

"Hello? Hello?"

"Hey AngelFace." He said softly. He heard her sigh contently.

"Justin, it's three in the morning here." She yawned loudly.

"I'm sorry baby, I just had to talk to you." They were talking in hushed tones even though they were both alone. "I miss you so much."

"I miss you too." He could hear the anxiety in her voice, and was somewhat comforted with the fact that she felt the same way he did. "It's only been a week and I?m already miserable."

"I've been miserable since the first day." He laughed lightly. "I think I'm driving the guys crazy."

"I know it's hard, but it's only, eight and a half more weeks." Even though she was trying to reassure him, he could hear the uneasiness in her voice.

"Nice try baby," He acknowledged her effort, "but I'm going to keep being miserable until I see you again."

"Is that going to be anytime soon?"

"Johnny said that if everything goes good this month we might get a couple of days off at the beginning of September." Megan's spirits were lifted in hearing that she would get to see him so soon.

"I can't wait Justin." She said. "I want to see you so badly."

"I know baby." As much as he wanted to talk to her, he knew she was tired and they both needed their sleep. "Well, honey I am beat and I know it's early there so I'll let you get back to sleep."

"Alright, I love you."

"I love you too baby, I'll call you tomorrow."

"OK, bye babe."

"Bye." Justin dropped his phone onto the floor and fell asleep with a smile on his face.

"I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves. I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves --"

"Chris!" Justin exclaimed, throwing down his pencil in frustration. "I'm trying to work over here, man."

"Oh, sorry." Chris leaned back in his chair and twirled it around several times, allowing a few moments of silence to pass before he started singing again. "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves, especially Justin's," An evil smile crossed his face and he started up again. "I KNOW A SONG THAT--"

"Chris, God Dammit!" Justin jumped out of his chair. Before he did anything rash, though, he took a deep breath to calm his temper. "Isn't there somewhere - Anywhere - else you could be?"

"Not really."

Justin groaned. "If you sing that again, I swear I'll--"

Suddenly, Chris was on his feet and headed to the back of the bus. "You know, I suddenly remembered that Joey challenged me to a game of Mortal Kombat earlier. So I'll just go back there now and leave you to your peace and quiet..." the door closed behind him.

Justin sighed angrily and tossed his pencil onto the table. He tiredly ran his fingers through his hair. Another long day on the bus, another day that he was away from Megan. He realized he was experiencing the same lonely feelings that he'd had before Megan came into his life 2 years ago. Now he had the added fact that she was 5 months pregnant. He was once again slowly driving his bandmates crazy. They were getting restless with him. He didn't mean to be like this, he was just wanted so much to have Megan near him that it killed him to know that she wasn't. He just hoped that he would be able to see her soon so his dismal attitude would disappear.
