Megan had been so worked up about spending more time with Justin, especially since the past few months hadn't gone to well for them. When he told her that Johnny was going to make them reherse all week, she wasn't happy, but she said that she understood that he had a job to do. He felt that he was more upset about it than she was. He hoped that he would have some time off soon or he'd go crazy.
He looked at his watch. It was 2:00 in the morning. He knew Megan would probably be sleeping so he tried to be extra quite as he climbed upstairs to his room. As he entered the room, he started pulling off various articles of clothing. But as soon as they dropped to the floor he picked them up again. Just because he was tired didn't mean he didn't remember that Megan hated it when he left his clothes on the floor. As he started to climb in bed, he noticed that Megan's side was empty. He looked around worridly.
"Megan?" He called.
"Yeah!"
"Where are you Babygirl?"
"The bathroom." He ran into the master bathroom where he found Megan leaning against the wall. She was pale and sweating like she had been sick.
"Megan!" He ran up to her. "Baby what's wrong?"
"I don't know." She whispered. "I was sleeping...and I woke up with this horrible sick feeling in my stomach...and then I ran in here and..."
"Why didn't you call me?" He asked brushing a piece of hair out of her face. "I would have come home and taken care of you."
"Well, you were gone all night and I figured you had something important to take care of or something...I didn't want to worry you..." She said weakly. Justin walked over to the bathtub and turned on the water.
"I worry about you anyway, Megan." He stood her up and started to pull her shirt up over her head.
"Don't you think this is kind of a bad time for us to do this?" She asked, trying to make a joke in her weakeded state.
"Don't make jokes Megan." He scolded lightly. "You're going to get into a bubble bath and calm down a little bit." She stepped into into the tub and laying down in the water. It amazed her how he always made it the perfect tempature. "I'll get you something to drink." Megan grabbed his hand before he could leave.
"Please Justin, stay with me?" She begged. He smiled and pulled up a stool that was in front of Megan's vanity mirror. It made him feel good that she wanted him there with her.
"So how was your night?" She asked settling back in the tub.
"Tiring as hell. I can't believe Johnny made us practice all night." He complained.
"I know how you feel." Megan said. "When I was a cheerleader, back in Brooklyn, we went to compititions and stuff and had to practice all night before performances."
"I missed you."
"I missed you too, love." She smilled weakly.
"You look so pale babydoll."
"Well if you just got finished throwing up at 2:00 in the morning, how would you look?" She asked her voice teasing. She ran a hand through her hair. "Ugh, my hair is so disgusting... and I'm all sweaty." She said grabbing her peach and mango shampoo. He snatched it away from her.
"Let me." He rolled up his pants legs and sat on the back of the tub letting his feet dangle inside.
"Don't get shampoo in my eyes." She joked.
"Shut-up." He mumbled.
He covered her eyes with his hand and poured water over her head, wetting her hair. He poured on some shampoo and started to massage her hair He felt her hands ticking his ankles, something she knew made him crazy. He kicked his foot lightly at her teasing hand, nudging it away.
"You better stop or I'm liable to strangle you."
"That certainly takes some of the romantic glow from my pampering." She laughed but stopped anyway.
"Ha ha...Tilt your head back." He said. She did and he carefully rinsed her hair. "All done."
"Thank you."
"Now you can soak for a little while longer." Justin stepped out of the tub and placed a kiss on her forehead.
"OK." He kissed her again and left her to enjoy the rest of her bath.
As soon as he was gone, Megan climbed out of the tub. She wrapped a dark blue towel around her body and studied herself in the mirror. She didn't look any different, but for some reason, she just didn't feel the same. It bothered her that she couldn't pinpoint what was wrong with her. She had woken up every day this week with a sick feeling in her stomach and before she could try to figure out what it was, she was in the bathroom throwing up. She had managed to keep her sickness a secret for a while but him coming in unexpectedly didn't help to keep it a secret. Maybe she'd call Kelly and ask her if she knew what was wrong. There had to be something wrong or she wouldn't have this horrible pain in her stomach.
She walked into the bedroom and over to the dresser and picked up her daily planner. She flipped to this months page. At first she was happy, she didn't have anything really important to do. Then she noticed something that made her stomach drop. She flipped back a couple of pages. How could she not notice this. She started breathing heavily and reached for her inhailer. Justin came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. She slammed the planner closed.
He laughed lightly. "What's wrong with you?" He asked.
"Ummm, nothing. I'm just cold...that's all." She forced a smile.
"Well then get out from under that vent, silly." He laughed pulling her towards the bed. He walked over to the closet and grabbed some pajamas. "Time for sleep." He mumbled.
By the time he came out of the closet, Megan was curled up under the blanket fast asleep. He smiled and layed next to her. He pulled her close to him and snuggled his face in her hair. He loved her so much and hoped that nothing was seriously wrong with her espeically after everything she had been through this past year. He fell asleep with a smile on his face though, confident that she was going to be just fine.
Megan sat nervously in the waiting room, blindly flipping through a magazine. This was only one of her monthly check-up's since her recovery, but this time it just felt different. Her morning sickness hadn't stopped, in fact it had gotten worse. Justin was getting more and more worried about her everyday and his pestering was becoming and annoyance. She realized though that he worried about her and was protective over her because he loved her.
When she arrived at the hospital, the nurse had taken some of her blood, as usual. She was told that the doctor would test it and then the other normal tests would be run afterward. Not any different than her other visits. But Megan had a feeling that her visit would end as anything but normal.
"Miss Ardini?" Megan was pulled from her thoughts. "The doctor will see you now."
"Thank you."
She nervously walked down the white halls that screamed sickness toward the office that the woman at the front desk had told her Dr. Cambell (her Orlando doctor) was waiting for her in. She knocked on the door and was greeted with an nice looking elderly woman.
"Megan. It's so nice to see you again!" She said brightly. That was one thing that Megan liked about Dr. Cambell, she was always happy.
"You too Doctor." Megan smiled. "So, what do you have for me today."
"Well, we just need to check your reflexes and blood pressure, make sure everything is going good there." She looked at her chart. "Then we get to look at your blood tests."
"Don't we usually look at those first?" Megan asked.
"We ran some extra tests this time so it'll take a little longer."
"Oh." The doctor checked her reflexes and blood pressure which came back normal. Then her blood tests came back. Dr. Cambell got a troubled look on her face.
"Is something wrong?" Megan asked nervously.
"Well everything looks okay, but, we did find something in your blood test."
"JC, I can hit that note. We don't need to rewrite the line, or the music. The note is within my vocal range."
"Please come back to reality, J?" JC took a deep breath before turning back to his friend. "There is no way you can possibly hit that note. Try doing it an octave lower and maybe it’s salvageable, but not what you try to hit it that high. All you have to do is listen to the tapes and you’ll hear how off you sound."
Justin threw his hands up in frustration. "JC, I did hear the tape and it sounds fine."
"Fine?" JC asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"Okay, it might need to be re-recorded, but I’ve almost hit it. Give me another shot and I’ve got it. I am so close. I know I can hit the note."
"Oh sure you’ve hit the note all right, J. You’ve hit the note to the best of your ability and you sound like a mad cow doing it. Please just change the word and bring the note down and everything will be fine." JC rubbed his hands down the length of his face.
Justin’s face turned redder. "Everything’s fine now. I can hit the note perfectly well. As I’ve said hundreds of times, I can hit the note. I’ve done it before and-"
"Yeah, maybe before you hit puberty you could hit the note. Justin, you’re twenty-three, not twelve."
"Look, as much as you want me to I’m not backing down on this. I can hit that note. What do you guys think?" Both blue eyed men turned to their friends.
Lance held his hands up in surrender. "There’s no way I’m getting involved in this. None. Fix this without me."
When Chris felt their eyes go to him he shook his head frantically. "Don’t even think about me. I know both of you good enough to know there’s no winning side and not to get into your fights."
"I’m out of this one. You two are on your own. I’m not taking any sides." Joey took a deep breath. "Why don’t we all just take a break? You two can blow off some steam."
"Good idea." Lance mumbled grabbing his bag.
"We'll see you guys later." Chris said. JC left without a word. Mr. Perfectionist... Justin thought. Never can back down when it comes to his stuff.
"So J." Joey broke the silence. "How have things been going with Megan?"
"Our relationship is going fine, if that's what you mean." Justin mumbled, fiddling with a knob on the sound board.
"So what's wrong? You never put up that much of a fight about something like that unless something is wrong." Joey asked, slightly worried about his young friend.
"She's just been sick lately." He said. "Throwing up alot, you know? I'm just worried about her."
Joey looked at him carefully. "Like, when has she been throwing up?"
"Mostly really early in the morning. Like this morning at like 3:00 in the morning...Why, you think you know what's wrong with her?" Oh I know what's wrong with her. Joey thought. She's probably- "Joe?" Justin interupped his thoughts.
"Um no." He said quickly. "She probably just has a cold or something."
"In the middle of spring?"
"Well, I had the flu in August once." Good save... He thought.
"Right...Well, I'm gonna go check on her...make sure she's ok and stuff." Justin got up and grabbed his jacket.
"Later J." Good luck... He added silently.
As Justin walked down the hall, he pulled out his cell and dialed Megan's number. It rang and rang before her voice mail message picked up. He tried a few more times and when he still got no answer, he became worried. He ran to find Kelly who was waiting in the cafeteria for Joey to grab a soda.
"Kelly!" Justin ran up to her. "Do you know where Megan is? She's not answering her cell and I haven't seen her all day."
"Last I heard, she was at her doctor's appointment." Kelly said. Justin looked at his watch and smacked his forehead.
"I'm so stupid!" He exclaimed. "I can't believe I forgot! Thanks Kell!" He called as he ran out of the building.
Justin hopped into his Prowler and sped off to the house that he now shared with Megan. He was nervous and excited to know what the doctor had to say about Megan's condition since she hadn't been feeling well. She wanted to dance again and according to Dr. Cambell, that dream wasn't as far fetched as it was a few months ago.
Justin arrived at the house and was happy to see that Megan's BMW was sitting in the driveway. He ran into the house calling her name before he even opened the door. He went into the living room and stopped dead in his tracks. His smile faded. There she was, curled up on the couch...crying her eyes out.
"Megan! What's wrong?" He ran to her side and tried to take her into his arms. She surprised him by shoving him away. "Baby - "
"Justin, please! Just leave me alone!" She sobbed.
"Baby, tell me what's wrong."
"Justin!" She practically yelled. "Leave...Me...Alone." She pushed him away and ran upstairs.
He didn't move until the slam of their bedroom door made him snap back to reality. He jumped up and ran up the stairs, taking two at a time until he reached the bedroom door. He tested it to see if she had locked it. She hadn't so he took a deep breath before pushing it open.
"Megan...Please!" He begged. "Tell me what happened at the doctor's office!"
"Justin - "
"No!" She jumped slightly at the sudden rise in his voice. He walked up behind her and spun her around by her shoulders. He looked deep into her eyes. "Don't make excuses...Just tell me."
"J...I'm pregnant." He nearly fainted.
"You're...Wh-what?"
"I'm going to have a baby, Justin."
