"Anime in the US"
by Phoenix Ray

Today, I'm going to talk about how abusive America as a whole is in regards
to Anime. Now, I'm not talking about everyone, so please don't e-mail me
saying how you don't support the things I mention in this editorial.
Back the to subject at hand. For those of you who have just discovered Anime,
or haven't yet, what you watch on TV is not Anime in its pure form. It's
censored. Yes, that's right, censored. The country with freedom of speech
still feels the need to censor animation. Don't like the fact that Zoisite's
a guy on Sailor Moon? Fine, make him a girl. Too many people die in DBZ?
They aren't dead, they're trapped in another dimension. If it's on TV, you
can bet it's censored. The same companies that translate Anime also change
lines, cut scenes, and digitally alter images so that the parents of four
year olds don't have to keep track of what show their kids are
watching. Of course, people in favor of censoring will probably be tempted to
make the argument that four year olds are the only ones who watch Anime. Do I
really sound like I'm four years old? And I'm not the only one who likes SM.
Just take a look at the other SM sites on the web. There are plenty of teens
and adults who like Anime. Now if only the censors would realize that...

-hey, this is my first of many editorials to appear here. i'll try to have a
new one ever time i update the site. please feel free to respond to it if
you have your own opinions on censoring.
