Modern "Normal" families

Over the last few decades the structure of the American family has changed. It has become the norm for both parents to hold employment outside the home. Young children are shipped off to daycare centers with scarcely trained transient staff. Children and teens running rampant after school without adult guidance have become the norm. Some families are reconsidering the wisdom of that arrangement. Children need guidance from adults daily, not just a few hours a week. Children naturally look for limits. Without regular adult guidance, children lead a confusing, chaotic existance. Children often look up to other children or teens for guidance. At one extreme, children turn to gangs for a sense of belonging and tradition. Some girls fall prey to relationships with older men, in hopes of forming a strong bond with an adult.
