Mark's Dodge Raider Page

Welcome to my first attempt at creating my own web page. My ride is a 1987 Dodge Raider. Since purchasing it in the summer of 1999, I've made a few changes and basic repairs, with many more planned for the future. The stock rear bumper was wasted, so I made one from 3" square tube. The exhaust system was replaced, as were rear shocks, fuel tank sending unit, etc. The front was raised 1.5" by cranking the torsion bars just a bit. The truck features a 2.6L 4-cyl. engine backed by a 5-speed manual trans. *UPDATE* I have recently installed manual locking hubs from Superwinch. I got 'em from J.C. Whitney, about $80.00, and very easy to install. These allow the front axles to be fully engaged in four wheel drive, even while backing up. *UPDATE* I have also just completed installation of a Weber 2 bbl. carb, Pacesetter header, and new free-flow cat. This dramatically improved performance.

1987 Dodge Raider

This is the Raider after adding 31-10.50 mud terrain radials.(Not shown is the full size 31" spare-That was added later). These tires fit the Raider with no rubbing of sheetmetal or frame. I could have gone with larger tires, but gearing becomes an issue. Currently I am running the stock rims.*UPDATE* In the very near future, the 31" tires and stock wheels are going to be replaced with 33" Mud terrains and 8" American Racing AR767 Wheels. I am also currently researching the possibilty of installing a Dana 44 rear axle out of an Isuzu Rodeo in this truck, because of greater durabilty and obvious better parts availability.(Lockers, gears, etc.)

Another barnlot picture.

This is another picture of the raider out in our barnlot. This shot was taken not long after I purchased the truck in the summer of 1999. Since then, many changes have taken place. I have found this truck to be very capable off-road, and extremely durable, considering it's age. A 2" lift was performed on the Raider after these pictures were taken. The front torsion bars were cranked, and in the rear, full-length add-a-leaves from a Jeep Cherokee were installed. This was strictly trial-and-error on the extra leaves, but they fit great, were easy to install, and give a good 2" of rear lift. (Thanks to my friend Mike Wilson for the parts-His Cherokee can be seen by linking to his website at the bottom of this page.)

Camo paint job

Here's a picture of the Raider right out of the garage. I had just shot the camo paint job. It took one weekend of body work and prep, and the next weekend was spent shooting the paint. Colors used were camo olive drab, camo flat khaki, and flat black. This paint job has proven to be fairly low maintenance, easy to touch up, and fairly durable. It's not for everyone, but I like it.
