KNEEPRINTS ON THE GROUND

Fifteen years of age,
And I thought I knew it all.
My daddy tried to tell me,
But I felt ten feet tall.
I was running wild and free,
I thought life was all for fun.
Then I heard my daddy pray;
O Lord, please save my son.

Now I never will forget
All the words I heard him say.
I had to realize
His prayers have kept me day to day.
When I went back to the place
Where I saw him kneeling down,
I knew that God would see
Daddy's kneeprints on the ground.

Now that I've grown older
My daddy has passed on.
The family's moved away,
The old homeplace is gone.
Oh, but in my mind I still go back
To the place that I had found,
Where the tracks of daddy's prayer
Were his kneeprints on the ground.
