| Now, let us look at the creation and appearance
of the physical universe. But, when I use the word "universe" I do not
mean the Totality of all physical manifestations across the endless reaches
of space. No, there has never been a time when nothing at all existed,
everywhere. When I refer to the universe, I mean a collection of millions
of galaxies, which forms but one universe in a system of billions of others,
which are part of a collection of billions of greater systems, and so on
into infinity. When it is empty and quiet in one part of the Universe of
Universes, awaiting the creation of stellar matter, there is intense activity
in all other parts. There is never a complete cessation of activity by
the Absolute. It is continually creating universes within Its infinite
Mind, and constantly destroying them again.
How does the Absolute create a universe? There can be no creation of something from nothing. And, except for the One, Itself, there is nothing. So, the Absolute must create a universe from Its own substance. But, what is this substance of the One? Is it physical matter? No, because matter is merely an illusion emanating from the complex arrangement of energy particles. Is it energy or force? No, because these particles fade off into an invisible something else, which we call mind and that controls the movement of these particles, urging them into elemental combinations. Then, the substance of the Absolute must be Mind. Yes, it is, but not the intellectual and reasoning mechanism with which we are familiar as imperfect and finite beings. Since we have nothing else with which to compare it, we will refer to the Mind of the Absolute as the Universal Mind, the cause and source of all intellect. There cannot be two or more Absolutes, so how can the Universal Mind be divided up to create finite minds, shapes, forms, and things? It seems like an impossibility! How can half be taken from something and still leave the whole intact? If the Absolute were to divide Itself, there would be two or more finites... and no Infinite. Yet, the Universe of Universes does exist, but how was it done? The answer is actually so simple that it has eluded science and religion for centuries without end. But, the Mystics have always perceived it. The Universe of Universes is merely a mental creation, a projection or thought-form, held in the Universal Mind of the Absolute. It is an illusion, given reality only in the Mind of God. The Absolute did not divide Itself to create the universe, but divided the universe into its component parts within the substance of Its own Mind and directed its formation through the Creative Will. Am I, too, nothing more than an illusion? Do I not have my own reality? These are just a couple of the questions that should be running through your mind about now. But, calm yourself and take comfort in the knowledge that you do have your own individual form of reality. You are a unique Self, and not merely an illusion. A single human consciousness may be thought of as a drop of water in the Infinite Ocean of the Absolute. Each drop has its own identity, and often becomes so wrapped up in the events of its interaction with the other drops surrounding it that it completely forgets the existence of the Great Ocean. The Ocean itself, although composed of an infinite number of drops, has a life and identity uniquely Its own, which is not dependent upon the finite intellects and awarenesses of its individual components. It is the separate drops who benefit from an expanded consciousness of the Great Ocean. The Infinite Mind of the Absolute holds us safe. We cannot ever be lost. We cannot be harmed. We can never just disappear. Just as we could not have been created from nothing, we cannot be turned to nothing. We are in the One, and there is nowhere outside of the One into which we may accidentally stray. In the beginning, if such a time could have ever existed, the Absolute first created the thought-form of a Universal Principle of Mind. This may sound paradoxical, but there is a distinct difference between the substance of the Universal Mind and the Infinite Mind of the Absolute itself, just as there is a distinction between the essence of your own mind and the physical brain matter that it uses as a tool to connect it to the body. The Infinite Mind is pure Spirit, while the Universal Mind is a subtle energy field from which all finite minds were formed and created. Since this Universal Mind was the first primordial energy, it gave birth to the universal Principle of Force. And, from this Principle of Force developed and appeared the Principle of Physical Matter. But, these three manifestations are not separate substances. They are one, and shade into each other so perfectly that it is often difficult to find the dividing line between them. Then began the Great Involution Process that was necessary before evolution could be possible. The Absolute had to become "involved" in Its own thought-form, wrapped up in the imagery, before It could unfold again into the emptiness of Its own perfection. The Universal Mind had to become involved in the actions of the Cosmic Energies, and the Principle of Force had to become involved in the movements of Physical Matter, all in accordance to the natural laws set down by the Absolute. We cannot pry into the Infinite Mind of the Absolute, but we may come to certain conclusions about Its purpose by observing and studying the Laws of the Universe. But, these are not necessarily the limited and misunderstood laws of science, nor are they the laws of the prophets and religious leaders. What I refer to here are the Laws of the Absolute and their governing of the process of Creation through Involution. The involutionary urge of the Absolute caused the energy of the Universal Mind to become involved and wrap itself in lower and lower degrees and manifestations of force. This primal Force, then, was wrapped in principle upon principle of grosser manifestations, until the essence of physical matter was reached. This matter was of the highest, most subtle forms of Etheric particles, but it was still subject to the involutionary spiral and wrapped itself in grosser and grosser sheathes of matter, until the densest form of matter was created. This extreme form of physical material is unknown to us, today, since the entire universe has evolved beyond its existence. It was the condensed heart of the Big Bang, which continues to expand and evolve across the emptiness. Shortly before the Great Creative Explosion, there
was a momentary pause. Principle upon principle of the Absolute’s own substance
had wrapped itself in the lower manifestations created by these principles.
There was no degeneration or devolution of higher life forms into lower,
until the grossest forms of matter were reached. The involution of the
Universe of Universes was a process of pure principles only. Life, individualized
and unique, had not yet appeared and was not possible until the evolutionary
process began.
