--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FAMICOM GAMES (NES)

Title: Dragon Ball: Shenron no Nazo

Theme: Action

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: November, 1986

Game Info: This was the first Dragon Ball game ever to be released, so it is very week in the graphics and game play department as compared to later games. The game revolves around the early adventures of Son Goku, with cameos from a lot of the original cast. The game is part sidescroller and part overhead action. This game was later released into the US under the title of “DRAGON POWER”.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball: Daimao Fukatsu

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: August, 1988

Game Info: This was the first Dragon Ball game to be made into an RPG and was a slight improvement over the previous Dragon Ball game, despite the different themes. This game is basically about Goku’s journey and his final battle with demon king Piccolo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball: Goku Den

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: October, 1989

Games Info: This RPG was a continuation of the previous game, and is about Goku and friends, on a journey to battle Piccolo Jr.. This is a very similar game to the previous with the exception of graphical improvements and the introduction of item cards.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Kyosho!! Saiyajin

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: October, 1990

Game Info: This game is truly a vast improvement over the games released before it. It takes place at the time of Raditz’s first appearance. The graphics in this game are much improved and you have the ability to choose from different characters (Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Kurirn, Yamcha, etc.) and utilize their individual special attacks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z II: Gekishin Freeza

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release date: August, 1991

Game Info: In this RPG Goku and his Friends head to outer space in search of the planet Namek and its Dragon Balls. First you must take on Ginyuu Team, and eventually Freeza. This game has the same basic “combat” card combat system, but a new “story mode” is included.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z III: Resen Ji Zo Ningen

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: August, 1992

Game Info: The biggest plus in this game as compared to the previous, is that you can control Vegeta. The plot involves fighting many different characters on Namek including Cyborg Freeza Bardock, Coola, Dr. Gero , #19 and finally Cell! This game is also very similar to the previous in terms of graphics and game play.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Budoki

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: December, 1992

Game Info: From what I’ve read this game was designed for use for a device called “Datach” that plugged into the SFC and allowed for swiping of barcodes into FC games. You have to pass specific barcodes into the system, to use different players and different attacks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: DBZ Gaiden: Saiyajin Setsu Metsu Keikaku

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: August, 1993

Game Info: This was the last DBZ game to ever be released for the Famicom. It also had an original story designed just for the game. I have heard that an animated version of the story was also released at about the same time. It involved Goku, Piccolo, Trunks, Gohan and Vegeta, having to stop Dr. Raichi from taking over the world with an armada of genetically engineered robots.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUPER FAMICOM (SNES)

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Supersaiyajin Densetsu

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: January, 1992

Game Info: This game combines storylines from the 4th and 5th Famicom games. Since it is a 16-bit machine the graphics are pumped up for a more enjoyable game. You can also control up to 12 different characters throughout the game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: March, 1993

Game Info: This is the game that began the Dragon Ball one on one fighting trend. The games graphics are OK but the control is a little sluggish. Their are three playing modes: story mode, one on one battling, and a Budokai mode. Sampled speech and a split screen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: December, 1993

Game Info: This is the second of the SFC fighting games and is an incredible improvement over the first. The graphics are very much improved over its predecessor, and so is its control.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 3

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: September, 1994

Game Info: This game is definitely not that much of an improvement over part two. Part two made part one obsolete, but many people think that part two is better than this one. The graphics are definitely sharper, but their is no story mode and the backgrounds aren’t quite as detailed. This is still an OK game with new characters.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Super Son Goku Den

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: March, 1995

Game Info: After three fighters Bandai decided to release another RPG. This game takes place early in Goku’s life when he meets Bulma and goes on the first adventure and ends with a battle against Piccolo Daimao. The graphics are fairly well done also.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Super Son Goku Den 2

Theme: RPG

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: Fall, 1995

Game Info: The graphics are slightly improved over the previous game, and I believe it takes place just after the previous one ends.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z Hyper Demension

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: March, 1996

Game Info: This game has 10 characters to choose from, and has better graphics than all of the other previous fighting games released on the system. It also doesn’t have a dividing line like the other games.

Other games for Super Famicom (SNES) Dragon Ball Z: The Legend of the Super Saiya-jin

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PC ENGINE (TURBO DUO)

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Son Goku Densetu

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: August, 1994

Game Info: The cinema scenes in this game are near anime quality. Their is a broad range of characters that you can choose from, making this an OK game, but it is very slow.

Other games made for PC Engine (TURBO DUO) Dragon Ball Z: Legend of the Great Son Gokuu

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BADAI PLAYDIA

Title: DBZ Gaiden: Saiyajin Setsu Metsu Keikaku

Theme: Interactive Anime

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: December, 1994

Game Info: Not many people have played this game because of the short lived system. This game has tons of footage from the Gaiden Series and involves letting the user control how Goku acts. The game is like an interactive storybook.

Other games made for BADAI PLAYDIA Dragon Ball Z: Interactive Anime 1; Dragon Ball Z: Interactive Anime 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SEGA MEGADRIVE (GENESIS)

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Buu Yu Retsuden

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: March, 1994

Game Info: To my knowledge this was the only DB game to be released for the Megadrive. The game was released around the same time as Super Butoden 3 for the SFC, so it was outshined by far. The game itself was very weak with bad sound and play control.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SEGA SATURN

Title: Dragon Ball Z: Shinbutouden

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: November, 1995

Game Info: I believe that their are a whopping 25 characters to choose from in this one. It is a great game and has an Anime quality intro. This game may not be as good as one of Playstation games, but it is still really fun.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: DBZ: Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu

Theme: 3-D Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: Summer 1996

Game Info: From what I’ve seen on the web this game looks great because of the fact that the graphics are great and its a fully 3-D fighting game. The only problem is it doesn’t look quite as revolutionary as some of the other 3-D fighters out there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SONY PLAYSTATION

Title: Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: Summer 1995

Game Info: This may possibly be the best Dragon Ball video game that their is. With the code you have access to 27 different characters!! The cinema scenes are amazingly well detailed and there are a lot of different moves and great sampled speech!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: DBZ: Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu

Theme: 3-D Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: Summer 1996 Game Info: This game is supposedly very similar to the Saturn version previously mentioned.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout

Theme: 3-D Fighting

Manufacturer: Bandai

Release Date: August 1997

Game Info: This is the first Dragon ball GT game made. The intro animation is really well done, and the sound effects are straight out of the show. The graphics are great, and the characters actually act like they are hurt badly when their life meters are low. The play control is a downside and every version of Goku has exactly the same moves. There are only a couple of new tunes in this game and the rest of the songs are recycled tunes from Shin Butoden.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARCADE

Title: Dragon Ball Z

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Banpresto

Release Date: 1993

Game Info: There are 8 characters to choose from and fairly good graphics, but that’s about all that it has going for it. The animation is slow and character strengths are very unbalanced.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title: Dragon Ball Z 2

Theme: Fighting

Manufacturer: Banpresto

Release Date: 1995

Game Info: The graphics are much improved from the previous game. The characters are drawn big and well. The digital voice effects are apparently very good as well but I’m not quite sure.
