SCHAUMBURG, Illinois December 5th
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash went to bat here Sunday to help fulfill the dream of Pro Football Hall of Famer Walter Payton, who died earlier this year. The Outsiders signed free autographs for fans who donated toys to the Walter Payton Foundation, with the toys going to Chicagoland children in need this holiday season.
"We're very appreciative of the effort of Scott and Kevin," said Sylvia Fonseca, a volunteer for the Foundation. "It was great to see the smiles on people's faces, especially the kids. I'm sure Walter would be happy with The Outsiders and the fans for helping his dream, aiding kids in need, become reality." More than 400 fans attended the two-hour signing session and about 270 toy donations were received. "I thought the turnout was very good," said Kari Ludwig, store manager. "Some (employees) didn't think (the turnout) would be this good, but I knew it would be."
Hall and Nash signed an 8-by-10 Payton photo, which was raffled off after the appearance. "It was a good turnout for a good worthy cause," said Steve Gassman, 36, a fan from Chicago. "It was good of Scott and Kevin to give of their valuable time. It was pretty good to see them as real people. They showed that they are caring, sensitive individuals."
