Who ya gonna call? Cleveland’s Graffiti Busters Hotline
From Vision, Volume 6, Number 1, January 5, 1998

We see it everywhere. In our neighborhoods and from the windows of the cars and buses we take to work. Sometimes it’s colorful and pleasing to the eye, but more often than not, it’s as crude as the messages it communicates.

It’s called graffiti and the City of Cleveland is cracking down on this growing eyesore. Ameritech, continuing our commitment to making a positive contribution to the communities in which our employees and customers live and work, is joining the battle.

Ameritech cellular services, along with Airtouch Cellular and GTE Wireless, is supporting Cleveland’s Graffiti Busters program by establishing a hotline that cellular phone users can call whenever they spot graffiti.

The city’s Division of Streets Department answers the call and dispatches a van equipped with paint and related supplies to the area as soon as possible. The offending graffiti is removed by city personnel, often within 24 hours. The van and supplies are being donated by Cleveland-based Glidden Paints.

In addition to its support for the hotline, Ameritech is distributing stickers to heighten the public’s awareness of the Graffiti Busters Hotline and create visibility for Ameritech’s involvement. The hotline number will be displayed on signs at Ameritech’s retail stores.

Ameritech is committed to community, safety and crime prevention issues in the cities where our customers and employees live and work,” said Kimberly Bosko, director, market support - Ameritech cellular. “Our goal is to improve the quality of life for our customers through advanced products and services and through important public service programs like Graffiti Busters.”
