Early career

Modern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts (2014-2016)

Debut

Shaffer made his wrestling debut in MECCA under the name The Hammerhead Kid in the summer of 2014. His first match was on the July 9 episode of Go Time, scoring an upset over veteran Amazing Red. He took on the persona of the Hammerhead Kid, and donned a mask in the shape of the skull of a hammerhead shark, as well as wore fins that protruded from his boots and elbow pads, and wore a cape to the ring with a dorsal fin on the back. He had a rematch with Red the next week, but lost that encounter. He continued to make his way in MECCA, taking on competitors from every spot on the card.

Deadly Waters

In late 2014, Hammerhead found himself in a feud with Damage Control after they blamed him for costing them a six-man tag match, and beat him down afterward. The numbers game eventually caught up to Hammerhead, but he was saved by Shark Boy, who announced that he and Hammerhead were now a team going by the name Shark Attack. They made their in-ring debut at End of the Line, defeating Damage Control in a tag match. Shark Attack would go on a winning streak, earning them a shot at the MECCA World Tag Team Championship. Shark Attack received their shot against champions Oi4K at Six-Man Melee, but came up short. They would also challenge Oi4K to their specialty match a few weeks later, the Fish Market Mayhem, but lost that match as well. Shark Attack competed individually in the Battlebrawl Match at The MECCA Challenge XI, but both men were eliminated. In mid-2015, the tag champs The Young Bucks were forced to vacate the titles due to an arm injury sustained by Matt Jackson. MECCA Authority Cynric declared that the titles would be put up in an eight-team single elimination tournament. On July 21, Shark Attack was set for their first round match against The Hype. Shark Boy debuted his Stone Cold Shark Boy persona in MECCA, joined by Hammerhead as Goldfish, a parody of Goldberg. They were able to outwit their opponents and get the win, but were eliminated with a loss to The Motor City Machine Guns in the semi-finals. The Hype wanted payback and got a rematch with Stone Cold Shark Boy and Goldfish at Summertime Showdown, coming out on top this time. Shark Attack spent the next few months floundering at the bottom of the tag team rankings. Eventually, Hammerhead was released from his MECCA contract in early 2016. His final appearance was on the April 5 episode of Go Time, where he tried to save his partner Shark Boy from an attack by AC Sledge, but ended up getting laid out himself.
