Marvelous 3 Is Down To A Marvelous One

After five successful years of capturing the ears and hearts of their fans, Marvelous 3 have decided to put a hold on the band. Meanwhile, lead singer Butch Walker has signed to Arista Records on an exclusive worldwide contract and will release his solo album this spring.

In a statement released on their website , Walker said that although the news sounds bad, it really isn't.

"We got together (the band) and had a discussion about what to do next. Due to the nastiness of the business and politics involved with joining the 'major label society' over the last few years, there are a lot of things that can affect your creative decisions, and dictate your life, due to it 'not being about the art' anymore.

"Well, we decided that before we let that happen, we would stay friends and do what our hearts told us to do . . . we have decided to end the Marvelous 3 for awhile."

After co-writing SR-71's #1 hit "Right Now," as well as tracks on Lit's new Atomic album, Walker decided that it was time to break from the band and do his own thing.

"The guys knew that I had been wanting to do a solo thing at some point, that would be a little different from what I write for the Marvies," he said on the website.

"We know this sounds really depressing and negative, but please know that it isn't. We have had something special that a lot of bands, that surround themselves in a drama and corruption everyday, don't have . . . that is brotherhood.

"This is absolutely mutual, and instead of letting the business get the best of us, we have always said that we would get the best of it."

Hometown favourites in Atlanta, Marvelous 3 garnered a strong local following with their indie debut Math And Other Problems. They went on to win the "Best Rock Band" and "Hardest Working Band" titles at the Atlantic Music Awards in 1997 and '98.

In 1998 Marvelous 3 signed on to Elektra Records and broke out with "Freak Of The Week," the first single from their major label debut Hey!. The same year they earned the "Buzzband" title at ASCAP's South-By-Southwest Conference showcase.

Butch Walker has produced upcoming records for Injected (on Island/Def Jam Records) and Bowling For Soup (Jive), as well as appearing in a recent issue of Vogue magazine and in a Calvin Klein advertising campaign.
