A Child's flight

A lonely woman walks down the street.
“Do you see her?”
Her eyes saddened from grief.
“Do you see her?”
Memories overwhelming, pondering
over a past of misbelieve.
“Can you feel her pain?”
A hardened heart, a hallow soul.
“Can you feel her pain?”
From a long ago place
merges a long ago child.
“Do you hear her cries?”
A child, that was never meant to be.
To walk upon this earth, like you, like me.
“Do you hear her cries?”

But, this lonely woman that we dare see,
standing before us, the one in need.
The one that we believe can
make us feel her pain.
We think of her often,
as she walks down that street.
We hear her cries of desperation,
of unhappiness, of disbelief.
Or so we would like to believe
in our own mind’s eye,
of this lonely woman so
unhappy, consumed by grief.

Yet this woman, she shows
no grief, none for us to see.
She walks on so gracefully
down that empty street.
There is no pain shown upon her face,
over memories of the past.
She shed’s no tears, over a long lost child.
A child, that does not walk amongst the crowd.

Everything we feel for this lonely woman
comes from our own sullen imagination.
Because what we think we see, feel and hear
in her is what we would want her to be.
If only she were like you, like me.
For unhappiness, loneliness, misbelieve and
grief we know only all to well.

But for this lonely woman,
she shows no signs of any of these.
This lonely woman isn’t so lonely after all,
as we would like to believe she is.
She walks on down that street with only
a smile on her face and love in her heart.

For she knows that, that long ago child
now walks amongst the angels.
In a flight to find a better way of life,
that comes from a higher light.
A light, that shines brightly down upon,
that of which god gives to each and everyone.
