When I Was Younger

When I was younger,
I went on my first spaceflight,
And I imagined
That all the stars
Made face constellations
Of all the people who'd ever loved me.
But just last week
I had a dream
And all the constellations
Were of you.

When I was younger,
I danced in the rain
And splashed in puddles.
I imagined
All the raindrops
Were sprinkling me with kisses
And showering me with love.
But last night
I had a dream
And all the raindrops,
Had your face.

When I was younger,
My parents were religious
And took me to church and such,
Although I never quite knew,
What to believe in.
Now I know
What a true angel's like,
Because I've met you.
Guiding me when I need it,
Always being there,
But giving me some space,
Letting me be
Whomever I felt like being,
Letting me take it slowly.

When I was younger,
I spoke my mind,
Said what needed to be said.
But now, Chakotay,
I can't say what I
Desperately want to tell you,
Even if I had the courage to.
The Captain has won out,
And red-hair & dreams,
Are all that are left
Of my forgotten child-like spirit.
