Mission Statement of our Cathedral Parish

SS. Boris & Gleb Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral is the Cathedral Church of the Metropolia of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church of North & South America ("SOBORNOPRAVNA") and its Archeparchy of Cleveland and the United States. We are a missionary diocese and extend the hand of Christ to all places and people.

It is the principal church of His Beatitude Metropolitan +STEPHAN, DD, STD, Metropolitan of North & South America, Primate, elected by the clergy and laity and His Eminence, Archbishop +MICHAEL J. Champion, DD, MA Th., Archbishop of Cleveland and Protosyngellos of the Metropolia.

The pastor of the cathedral parish is Vladyka +Michael. He is assisted by Fr. Protodeacon Volodymyr Klebanik and Hierodeacon Mark A. Perger. Protodeacon Konstantin Rouban, a renowned iconographer, also serves as Director of Sacred Art for the Metropolia. Prof. Ivan Klymas is the cantor/choir director of the cathedral and the chairman of the Archeparchial Commission for Liturgical Music. Hieromonk Danylo, is a deacon attached to the Cathedral Church.

Our Metropolia takes its origin from the Orthodox Church of Western Ukraine. As a particular church, we recognize the Patriarchate of Kyiv as the historical center of Ukrainian Christianity. Our Metropolia and Cathedral continue the centuries-old consciousness of an indigenous Ukrainian Church.

Our people and clergy are heirs to the glorious history of the Eastern Christian Church in Western Ukraine and the venerable Metropolia of Lviv, which for over 1000 years has preserved the Eastern Orthodox Faith and its unique customs and recensions, tenaciously held by our ancestors.

Our church has as its basis, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and in this respect, welcomes all of God's people who seek his kingdom and righteousness. We see the mission of the church as one which is to proclaim the nearness of the Reign of God, working together to lighten the burdens of others justly.

To this end, we are an inclusive church and welcome people from all walks of life. As Christians, we give preferential option to those who are poor or marginalized from society and have been deprived of human dignity. Many of our families are recent immigrants from Ukraine, hoping to escape the disadvantages of life in their homeland. Our Cathedral is located in an urban area, where much of the population is underfortunate or from various ethnic or national backgrounds.

The origins of our Cathedral date back to the late 1970s when the founding pastor, Archpriest Lev Ostrowsky established the church of SS. Boris & Gleb in Parma, Ohio, under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of America (Ecumenical Patriarchate). The parish moved to its present location in 1996, when Metropolitan +STEPHAN returned from Ukraine and announced the canonical erection of the Archdiocese by document #520, issued March 20, 1996 by Metropolitan +VASILI (Bodnarchuk), Then, senior hierarch of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Western Ukraine.

Our services are conducted in Ukrainian.
