Final Fantasy II was truly a land-breaking game. Final Fantasy (the original game) was released to test the waters for role playing game interest outside of Japan. Now it was time to show North America and the rest of the world what a true Final Fantasy game was like. Final Fantasy IV easy was the game that the American version was based on. There were three FFIV versions made: a Playstation one, a hard SNES equivalent one and an easy one for new and younger players. *sigh* Yes, our FFII is considered 'easy'. The other ones included more items (like that Lit-Bolt in the starting scenes), less shops to buy items and they were...less censored. Rosa and Cecil's relationship was more...open to the player, Rosa's life was threatened by a razorblade, not a giant steel ball, and there were such perks as the programmer's room, famous in later Squaresoft games, and the porno book. These little things were seen as bad for the American audience and cut. Personally, I'd love to see these if/when the Final Fantasy Collection is brought to these shores. Now, get you mind out of the gutter! I want to know what *really* happened with all the characters. The ending was good, but it left so many unanswered questions!

Now, for the characters and plot...Well, basically, I could never explain it in this spac; it's so complex and convulted. Well, I'll try, but it won't be the whole story.
Cecil was a Black/Shadow Knight of Baron (a country). He's the guy in charge of their airship army. But he disobeys his king and gets exiled with his best friend, Kain. Kain is a dragoon, sort of a guy in armour with a spear and jumps and stabs people. Anyway, to redeemed themselves they must carry a package to the village of Mist for their King. The package is a fire spell with demons that wipe out the village, killing all the people except one little girl. Apparently, the people of Mist had this ability to summon monsters to destroy evil and all that. Anyway, the little girl named Rydia is all angry at you for killing everyone (especially her mother) and in her rage summons Titan who does an earthquake, sealing you from ever returning to Baron again. Of course, Cecil is pretty disgusted at being used by the king to wipe out a village of people. Eventually, Rydia forgives you and helps you in your war against the king of Baron. Kain's gone; he becomes a Baron roadie.
Traveling on, we meet Tellah the Sage, in search for the magic of Meteo to avenge his daughter's death at the order of Golbez, the guy who replaces Cecil's position in Baron. We meet Edward, a prince and bard (useful in getting support from other countries). Yang is a martial arts guy who joins the fight-evil campaign. Oh, and Rosa, Cecil's wizard/healer lady-love joins Cecil as well. Kain wants her too, by the way, so of course there's fighting about her.
Later, when Cecil becomes a Paladin/Light Knight, Palom and Porom, twin wizards (one heals, the other hurts the bad guys) join. And Cid, Cecil and Rosa's engineering friend. And Edge, a ninja prince who luvs Rydia, who went through a time-warp thingy and came back all grown up. *g* Isn't that handy? Then FuSoYa, a Lunar and Cecil's uncle and Golbez, who's really Cecil's older brother! Yes, you are now seeing why the plotline is impossible to write. *g*

The music was pretty cool. Well, understatement. The music was excellent after Final Fantasy, but I'm now talking from one who has played and heard Final Fantasy III. My favs are: the underground/tunnel music, the Lunar one and the ever-popular Prelude! I used to just turn the game on and listen to that tune for at least 5 minutes.

Now for the artwork and stuff. I like the character pictures in the sub-screen. I think that they're the best of the whole game. I also liked the architecture of the crystal rooms and of most of the buildings in general. The characters on the screen were excellent considering where they were progressing from. Still, Cecil and all the guys looked a bit under-dressed to me.

Let's see...That's about it. Lots of sub-quests and places to discover. Fav scene: FuSoYa's appearance in the Lunar's Palace. *g* That rocked!!!

NOTE: I'm using the past tense, because you can't find Final Fantasy II anymore. It's not being made and stores are not selling them.
The title screen with the really cool music *g*
The opening sequence where Cecil the black knight steals the Light Crystal of Water
Fight between Tellah the Sage and Prince Edward, his son in law
Cecil on the moon with the Lunars' Palace and the Big Whale airship
Cecil and company's final battle with Zeromus, the ugliest end boss that I have ever seen
One question for any advanced Final Fantasy II players:

Has anyone ever found the Silver Mines in/around Silveria?
That's been a thing that's puzzled me for a bit. Also, who got the Bomb summoning monster? I got the Imp one and I heard something about a Cocktrice one as well. Please send me some answer (and any questions of your own) to me.
The sub-screen. I especially like the character portraits
Master of the Summon Monsters, Bahamut gives Zeromus a megaflare attack (about 6000 points off this guy *g*)
It's the first game with Chocobos!!!
White healing magic chocobos!
Yellow riding chocobos!
Black flying chocobos!
And big, fat item carrying chocobos!
I luv chocobos!!! *g*
Kain versus (t-b) Rydia (as a little girl), Cecil (as the Dark Knight), Palom, Tellah and Porom
Ma Bomb versus (top to bottom) Rosa, Cecil, Edward, Yang and FuSoYa
This is a rather pathetic attempt to illustrate some important events, and no they're not technically correct. *g*
Kain and Golbez want the crystal on the left...
Final Fantasy IV, the Playstation cover of the game, I believe.*sigh* Not my image of Cecil and Golbez, but that's okay. Personally, they look more like Dragonball characters to me.
