RMS Titanic

There was a ship that weighed 45,000 tons and was the largest thing afloat. It was bigger than her older sister. She had four equally spaced funnels on her bridge. She carried over 2,000 passengers.

The largest thing ever afloat struck an iceberg. The hull of the ship was damaged enough that she started to fill with the icy Atlantic seawater. Her watertight compartments did hardly anything to save her. Two hours after that she had disappeared beneath the waves. Screams echoed throughout the night. The mighty ship killed about 1,500 people.

The mighty Titanic.

Titanic is probably the most famous of all ships. Titanic began her maiden voyage on April 10, 1912. As she was leaving Southhampton, the ship New York was freed from her place in the harbor towards Titanic. The collision was missed by only six feet! Some said it was a start for a bad trip. We all know it was. Most people on the Titanic at that time thought it was exciting. Those who embarked at Cherbourg, France and Queenstown, Ireland, didn't see anything that exciting. The only thing exciting was that they were going to be on the grandest ship of all time.
