SHELL SORT - Sort shell by shape size and color.

BEACH STONES - Collect a variety of smooth beach stones. Add them to the
sensory table and allow the children to sort them according to size or
color.

SORTING THE SEA - Have the children study seashells, sand dollars, and other
sea items have the children sort them into their own categories.


WHALE MEMORY GAME - Draw a simple whale shape on each of twelve index cards.
Color each pair of whales a different color. Place the cards face down on a
table. Have the children take turns turning over two cards at a time,
keeping them if they match and turning them face down again it they don't.

COUNT THE LEGS - How many legs does an octopus have? Count them and explain
octo means eight. Collect different items of eight in each group. tentacles, to show kids how the
suckers on an octopus work. It's fun to use them in the sensory table with
water.

OCTUPUS COLOR CHANGES - Discuss with your child how an octopus will change
colors to blend with its surroundings. Cut four or five different colored
octopus from construction paper. Set out four or five of matching sheets of
construction paper. Ask your child to match the octopus with its background.

THE POWER OF SUCTION CUPS - To let the children get a feel of the power of
the suction cups, let them push a plumber's helper plunger against the floor
and try to pull it off.

LENGTH OF TENTACLES - Different types of jellyfish have different lengths of
tentacles. Make some jellyfish out of streamers knotted together of various
lengths and have measure them.
