Lessons
He packed his things and left the house
never wanting to return
he didn't know of the lessons in life
he was about to learn
Stopped by a little girl
on the way to the station
he listened, growing more annoyed
as he heard the situation
He thought the girl was lying
just to get attention
bought a paper the next day
which happened to mention
A little boy was shot and died
with his sister sitting by his side
she had left to find assistance
and was met only with resistance
He didn't think he was the reason
for the young boy's death
surely she had asked some others
what about the rest?
An old man stood by the wall
looking worn and tired
out of money and out of luck
he had long been retired
The young man looked in great disgust
at the old and burdened man
but didnt feel like arguing
when he heard stories about 'Nam
the young man was too selfish
to feel the old one's pain
he walked away without a word
and it began to rain
but the man was so happy
to have his story told
he had also finally met his grandson
but his heart grew cold
The boy didn't even know
who he had listened to
he didn't even care about
what the man went through
Later that night
he lay awake in his car
he realized he was lonely
that he had gone too far
he had only stopped to worry
about his own selfish needs
feeling so ashamed inside
he dropped to his knees
crying from sadness
he knew he was wrong
he needed to understand
that life is not that long
he realized he was lucky
just to be alive
and with many apologies
he took the man inside
He took his things and packed them
ready to go home
he realized the worst thing in life
was being all alone
