Wallpapers

If it strikes my fancy, there's bound to be a wallpaper of it. And if there isn't, I tend to make one.

If your computer screen has a different resolution then the wallpaper, you should be able to stretch out the wallpaper with little if any loss of image quality. It may be noted that most of the older 800 x 600 resolution wallpapers were done on MS Paint, whereas the 1024 x 768 ones are with Photoshop. This is because my old computer was a piece of crap, whereas my current one not only has a larger resolution, but more than 2 GB memory. The smaller wallpapers on this page? It's a miracle they were made! My old computer, it was held together with paperclips. Literally.

How to Install: This is the 21st century. You should know how to install a @#$!ing wallpaper by now.

Ladies First

1024x768 resolution

REPUBLICA
Photoshop. Frontwoman Saffron in very nice club clothing. I don't know what happened to her band but at least I can still listen to the two albums they did come out with. Shiny black, strong red tones; more responsible use of Photoshop here.

800x600 resolution

MILLA JOVOVICH
Photoshop. The actress as Leeloo in "The Fifth Element." According to Roger Ebert, in this scene, "Leeloo is clad in a garment that looks improvised from Ace bandages but gets no complaints from me (the costumes are by French couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier, whose favorite strategy as a designer is to start by covering the strategic places, and then stop)."

ANGEL BY THAYER
MS Paint. The image is from "Stevenson Memorial" by Abbott Handerson Thayer. In the wallpaper, it is a small angel against a large black background. Subtle and sweet enough to please even the most delicate constitutions.

Smallville

1024x768 resolution

CLARK KENT
Photoshop. The base image comes from a locker poster available at TheWB.com, but I've played with it a lot. And frankly, I think my version's better!

LEX, LANA, and CLARK
Photoshop. Also derived from a locker poster available at TheWB.com. Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, and Tom Welling as Clark Kent. As this image so richly illustrates, the only thing coming between the most faithful romance on television is Lana.

SMALLVILLE GIRLS, a.k.a. CHLANA
Photoshop. Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang and Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan. Artsy, abstract, and of course, pink.

800x600 resolution

TOM WELLING
MS Paint, and obviously so. Made at a time when the availability of Smallville wallpapers was low, as was my computer's RAM. Now I think I only post it as an historical curiousity.

SMALLVILLE WINAMP
MS Paint. Based off one of the winamp skins I made for "Smallville", which you can find on another part of this website. I didn't mean to create this wallpaper, but my computer screwed up and suddenly, if I moved my winamp, both the functioning program and where its image had earlier been on the screen, were simultainiously visible. It made a pretty pattern. Fortunately, a screenshot is done with a single button on the keyboard, so I was able to capture the resulting image even though nothing else about the CPU was functional. Just don't use this wallpaper and the aforementioned winamp skin at the same time, or else confusion may result.

Angel

1024x768 resolution

ANGEL and SPIKE
Photoshop. Based on yet another locker poster from TheWB.com. David Boreanaz as Angel and James Marsters as Spike. Sure, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ended its run and now "Angel" is over too, but I don't mind. I'm just hoping that Joss Whedon grows a brain and gives Spike his own spin-off.

Leonardo DiCaprio

1024x768 resolution

DICAPRIO STANDS ALONE
Photoshop. Perhaps my most traditional wallpaper yet! The subject is smiling and standing against a computer-generated background. This is based on an older photo of him, probably from around 1995 or '96.

DICAPRIO AND THEWLIS
Photoshop. On the set of "Total Eclipse", DiCaprio (as Arthur Rimbaud) standing next to co-star David Thewlis (as Rimbaud's lover Paul Verlaine). This was the first thing I made after downloading Photoshop 7. And it's probably obvious too, basically trying to fit in every special effect and neato thingie possible. The original picture comes from Mag4.net's "Total Eclipse" gallery.

DICAPRIO AND THEWLIS 2
Photoshop. A less altered version of the above, where the only thing Photoshop is used for is cropping and resizing.

WRITER'S BLOCK
Photoshop. From a film still of "Total Eclipse", in which DiCaprio's character, Rimbaud, is so tortured by his lack of inspiration that he is actually bleeding. This is the desktop image I switch to aproximitely two hours before a term paper is due.

800x600 resolution

LEONARDO DICAPRIO
MS Paint. Features Catholic imagery, a line from a disco song, and a pre-sellout DiCaprio. Not your usual wallpaper.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO PART DEUX!
MS Paint. Contains the same joke as the first DiCaprio wallpaper, but with a simpler appearance and white background. Includes a Madonna lyric, as if those rumours about him weren't enough.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO PART TROIS!
MS Paint. A deleted scene from "The Man in the Iron Mask", probably cut because it was a tad anachronistic. It's a great pity and they didn't even include this on the DVD, bastards.

Jean-Nicholas Arthur Rimbaud

800x600 resolution

PERKY-COLORED RIMBAUD
MS Paint. I think the yellow portrait may be based off of a photograph of the real-life Rimbaud, though the clothing seems altered. This fan-art was made by someone named Ernest Pignon-Ernest. The background and arrangement are my own. I sincerly hope you find this to be a fresh, vibrant take on Jean-Nicholas Arthur Rimbaud. Please note that I did not contact Pignon-Ernest when making this wallpaper.

HIGH-BROW RIMBAUD
MS Paint. A more tradional treatment of the subject matter, this wallpaper features the famous image of Rimbaud taken from "Coin de Table" by Fantin-Latour. On the left is his poem "Metropolitan" in the original French. If you are interested in reading the English translation, click here. That page has translations for all of "Illuminations", including said poem.

Tarkan Tevetoglu

800x600 resolution

TARKAN
MS Paint. Tarkan is a Turkish pop singer, whose single "Simarik" (a.k.a. "the kiss-kiss song") charted in every country, it seems, but the U.S. His newest album, "Karma", is also really good. He's dark, sexy, and quite possibly bi. Single, too!

TARKAN PART DEUX!
MS Paint. A quasi-professional looking wallpaper. Photoshop looks at MS Paint prices. Behold a miracle.

TARKAN PART TROIS!
MS Paint. Another freak incident in which MS Paint imitates Photoshop. Look at the picture, see the resolution, feel the sexy.

Savage Garden and Darren Hayes by himself

800x600 resolution

SAVAGE GARDEN
Photoshop. Bright color, simple shapes, but no pixels this time. Just as with the original version of this wallpaper, the base image is the cover of their first American single, "I Want You", which is still my favorite picture of them. As well as my favorite song.

DARREN HAYES
Photoshop. I just couldn't have such a bad SG wallpaper on my conscience, so I went back, took a different picture of Savage Garden, and erased Daniel Jones out of it. I know that there are many photographs out there of Hayes alone, but it's not right. That band broke up on my birthday, damnit!

Ariel of Disney's The Little Mermaid

The following are variations on my favorite picture of Ariel. They range from childlike to slightly satanic.

1024x768 resolution

STAINED GLASS
Photoshop. Possibly the most simple of the variations. A texturized Ariel with a multi-colored seashell bra (solid colors can be boring) against a solid background with a distinct light source.

PURPLE
Photoshop. A texturized Ariel against a complex lavender satin-textured background with a graduated light source.

RAVE
Photoshop. Photocopy filter and rainbow gradient on Ariel. A background of silver satin. The only wallpaper to include the title of the movie, here done in a font constructed from hiragana and katakana. I know that it's fake Japanese, but then this movie is fake anime, so I think it works.

GOTH
Photoshop. Black and red can make anything look sinister. A color-changed Ariel against a red textured background with a distinct upward light source.

CHILD
Photoshop. My first variation on the Little Mermaid theme, Ariel floats in front of a colorful pattern of mermaid outlines. I have a friend who likes this wallpaper due to its nostalgia-inducing qualities. Indeed, it does look like the blankie that I had when this movie first came out.

GUEST
MS Paint? This was made by the aforementioned friend, ShokuPanSoul. To my eyes, it looks most like a typical Disney wallpaper, which is amusing since she claims that Disney scares her.

Non-photograph based/ textures

Note: Some of the wallpapers in this catagory, due to their simplicity, can be easily customized via any image program. For instance, the rainbow wallpaper can function as a background pattern in your own computer-made artwork. Feel free to take advantage of that.

800x600 resolution

"WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT?"
MS Paint. In the tradition of modern art and modern political protest, here's my little addition to the fray. The question is addressed to members of both the conservative and liberal extremes of the political spectrum, and anyone else who wants to influence my life according to their own personal ideologies.

RAINBOW
MS Paint. According to scientists, this is what happens when light is filtered through a prism. According to others, this is what happens when political agenda is filtered through a pink triangle. And according to Christian belief, this represents God's promise to us that he will never flood the earth again. But no matter what your stance, this wallpaper goes with any color you can think of.

RAINBOW PART DEUX!
MS Paint. Brighter and fewer colors, much rougher in appearance. For some reason it reminds me of the Spice Girls or any other pop music from '97.

BLACK AND WHITE
MS Paint. Graphic b&w pattern, good under any circumstances, great if you're on an Eighties trip. For more fun, open this image in your computer's MS Paint or Photoshop program and add graphics or words (red lettering looks best) in the large white area as you see fit. This wallpaper works well on its own but is very easy to customize.

THE BIG ONE!!!

1024x768 resolution

TAVI WITH FAKE CHARCOAL
Photoshop. Darker than previous efforts, with more depth and feeling. It's amazing how you can fake artistic ability with Photoshop.

800x600 resolution

TAVI
MS Paint. Based on the hero of the novel I am writing, this is basically like an ad for it. (PR, baby!) In a few lines and a single graphic, it illustrates the plot of the novel, the rawness of the characters, and probably a few other things too. The novel hasn't been published (or heck, even finished) yet, and a movie option is probably also far away, but join me in my fantasy here. Be the first on your block to have this in-demand wallpaper!

TAVI #2
MS Paint. A second take on the Tavi theme. Better artwork, minimal caption.
