Poetry

Poems are not my main work. I'll occasionally write something, but I consider myself mainly a novelist. Yet sometimes, I'll see or experience something that can only be recounted in poetry. That's when I write some.

By far, my biggest poetic influcence is Rimbaud. He supposedly changed the face of French poetry, and don't worry, little is lost in the English translation. But even more importantly, when they filmed his biography ("Total Eclipse"), it gave Leonardo DiCaprio a legitamite excuse to strip naked and do a lot of gay stuff, though not in that order. God, that's a great movie...

EXTRATERRESTRIAL BOOTY HOUND
Exactly what the title implies.

THE STRANGER
Even though this was based on a character from the half-written prequel to "In Which a Deaf Man Heard..." (see Novels), people have used this to describe everything from vampires to former coworkers. Perhaps because of its unexpected universal appeal, I think this is a personal favorite of mine.

HOUSE
Slightly on the Gothic side, this was inspired by a run-down house I saw in Indianapolis once.

SORRY
This may be the most romantic poem I've ever written, but it's little more than the playing-out of a fantasy. Damnit!

TO MEZ
If the actual Mez ever read this, I wonder what she would say.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
Why I am against the PC movement.

UNTITLED
A mildly suicidal poem based on one of the sequels I was playing around with for "Tavi" (see Novels).

GENEROSITY
One day somebody did something really nice for me, and this is just my way of saying thanks. See, not all of my poems are depressing!
