The Origin of the Neon Migraine
|
This is the story of how it all began. Back in my Sophomore year of college, my roommate, Jason, was and still is dating a lady in Georgia. One weekend, he went down to visit her. This left little competition for his computer(not that there was much usually.). I returned to the room that Friday with a case of Mountain Dew. After an hour or two of Diablo, (beaten only by Diablo 2, and followed closely by the Fallout) I became bored. I decided that I wanted to learn HTML and build a site. I did my OWN research (That's right, ladies and gentlemen, I taught myself!) and learned the basics of HTML. I originally tried finding a home Geocities, but after about an hour of fighting with their web shell, I decided to try Angelfire. And here I am today, though I also have a largely unrevealed site I'm working on at Tripod. The name, The Neon Migraine was one I used originally for my page. It was a lot brighter then and the animations COULD give you a headache(and we won't even talk about the layout.. ugh). Of course, since I didn't have access to a scanner yet, most of the images were lifted from other pages. These days that's no longer the case. I much prefer the new look, even if it does mess up on some computers. However I decided to keep the name for personal reasons until about a year ago. The site went unnamed for several months. And so, I decided to name it "The Lost Cause," because I've accepted that it shall never be finished. The image that is featured so prominently on this page is called a "Roadkillroy." That actually has its roots as far back as high school. In one of my high school English classes, we were given a weekly vocabulary list. On the back of the definitions sheet we had to use each word in a sentence. As useless as such busywork is, I determined to at least have a good time doing it. I created a character named "Roadkill" Roy Riley, a 90 year old biker on a souped up tricycle who always did crazy things involving my vocabulary list. After I graduated high school, Roy Riley lay dormant for several months. Then I discovered MUDs (Multi-User Dungeons). I became addicted. I joined several MUDs and created several characters. Eventually I remembered Riley and tried to create RoadkillRoy Riley on a MUD. It didn't work out, but my brain caught onto the twisted humor attached to a name like roadkillroy. Eventually I developed a logo for it and for a while it was my ICQ pseudonym. My UIN is 5201080 by the way, in case you use ICQ and decide to mail me. If not, you should be able to download it here. Anyway, that's the story behind my page and some of the little inside jokes that you might scratch your head about. Hope you enjoy my page! |
