World of Darkness |
These games all takes place in a world very similar to ours, if maybe a little darker. Vampires hide amongst us in secret, feeding from those they please. In the wilderness, Werewolves and other creatures seek to save the world from metaphysical threats. Magi, struggle to reassert a more comfortable paradigm as humanity's perceptions harden reality against them. The Fae merely struggle to survive, grasping atthe last strands of human creativity to sustain them. The Restless Dead lurk in the cities, seeking protection from a great metaphysical storm that threatens to tear them apart. Hunters have begun to surface from the populace, displaying strange powers and attempting to keep the supernatural in check. |
Besides the modern games, most of the lines also have a historical equivalent. Vampire: the Masquerade has Vampire: the Dark Ages. Werewolf: the Apocalypse has a Wild West series and Mage: the Ascension has the Sorcerer's Crusade, about the Renaissance and the assertion of reason over superstition. Wraith: the Oblivion also has rules for World War I, covered in Wraith: the Great War. This is a great series of games for people who enjoy history, because they're the best researched games on the market. |
