Chapter 9
Isaac walks with you to the door of Ashley’s house and he knocks. It looked
like the house was packed with people and there were a lot of cars outside.
“Hey guys! Come on in.” A short thin boy said as he opened the
door.
“Thanks Ernie. This is Christina. Christina, this is Ernie.” Isaac introduces
you to him.
“Hi Ernie, nice to meet you,” you tell him as Isaac rushes you through the
living room into the kitchen.
“What’s wrong?” You ask Isaac.
“Nothing. Nothing is wrong.” Isaac stutters on his words.
“Tell me what’s wrong,” you tell him sternly. You know him to well to know
when something is bothering him.
“Okay, okay. I am not going to lie to you. See that girl over there?” He points
across the room to this ‘bouncy’ blonde girl.
“Yeah, what about her?” You ask him.
“Her name is Monica. We went out a long time ago. And she has been trying
to go back out with me. She drives me crazy. Bad thing is, she doesn’t know about
you. She can’t know we are here.” He tells you as he turns and leads you
downstairs.
“Okay, so we are at a party to have fun, but we have to stay in the basement
because of her?” You ask him. But you quickly change your tune when you round the
corner and find a bunch of other couples dancing with slow music on. “Oh.” You
quickly sputter out.
Isaac waves to a few people that are sitting on the couch “Come here,” he
whispers as he stops and turns around to face you. He wraps one of his arms around
your waist and holds your right hand over his heart. He pulls you just a little closer and
the two of you start swaying to “I’ll Be,” by Edwin McCain. You lean your head against
his shoulder and close your eyes, taking in the feeling of being in his arms once again.
Shortly, you pick your head up and kiss his lips as the music starts to end,
then a fast song that you have never heard before begins to play. “Let’s get something
to drink.” Isaac takes your hand and walks upstairs.
