Chapter 21
It has been one week since you last talked to Kevin on the phone. Things have
gone okay in your relationship with Isaac. He gave you news a few days ago that he
had to go out of town, after you told him about Kevin. He took it better then you had
expected. And he did realize, that as far as you were concerned, Kevin and you were
over. But it was up to you to make it clear to Kevin before Isaac got back. Isaac was
coming back on the Thursday. You hadn’t had time to call Kevin. Well, it wasn’t that
you didn’t have the time, you just didn’t want to mess with trying to make it clear to
him.
Today was Tuesday. Tuesday morning to be exact. You had gotten up and had a
shower and pondered calling Kevin. You surrender and pick up the phone and dial the
number.
One ring, two rings, three rings, and then someone finally picks up the phone.
“Hello?” Said this female voice.
The voice didn’t sound familiar. Until.....
“This is Sarah. Who is this?” The voice said again. And then it hits you, it was
one of your friends!
“Can I speak to Kevin?” You ask her, uneasily and forgetting the fact that she was
inquiring who was the caller.
“Yeah, one moment.” Luckily for you, she didn’t recognize your voice.
“Hello? Who is this?” Kevin asked when he got on the phone.
“Hey Kev? It’s me. How are you?”
“I’m doing great! Sarah is wonderful! I couldn’t be more happier with her. I am so
glad you found someone new. Well, I mean....”
“Yeah, Kev, I know what you mean. I just thought I would call. We got back late
last week and have been busy ever since.” You tell him. Yeah, okay, so you lied just a
little. It had been boring since Isaac left. The only thing you had done was go to the
Oklahoma City bombing site.
“So have I. Sarah is great! We have been so busy! You’ve missed some
awesome party’s! Oh, how rude of me, how is the ‘new guy?’” He suddenly sounds very
quiet.
“Oh, Isaac. He’s great. Right now is out in L.A. doing a new video. He will be
back on Thursday.” As you tell him this, you feel really bad. Almost like you are
bragging about him, even though you know you aren’t.
“Isaac? Isaac who?” You wonder why he takes the sudden interest.
“Isaac Hanson. Why? You better not make fun of him.” You say with a little
smile.
“No, no. I wouldn’t make fun of him. We didn’t have enough time to talk about it
last time. Well, look, we have to be going. I have to run Sarah back home. We are
getting ready for a party tonight. Have fun on the rest of your trip. And if you think of it,
tell Isaac I said he is a lucky man and he should treat you right, or he has to deal with
me.”
“Okay. No problem. Have fun and tell Sarah I said ‘hi.’ Buh-bye.” You tell him as
the tears start to form in the corner of your eyes as you set the phone receiver back in
its cradle.
