Chapter 17

"Hey Isaac. What ya doing?" Taylor asks his older brother.

"It's starting to rain so we came in to listen to some music. Where is Devon?"

"She is in the family room. We are watching a movie. Don’t forget Ike, the girls have to be back at 4:00 p.m." Taylor reminds his brother. He knows how is brother gets side tracked. “So we have to leave in an hour."

You and Ike head to the living room. You sit back down on the couch. Isaac goes over to the sound system and turns the radio on. Then he comes over and sits down beside you. Awkward for words, you just sit there with his arm around your shoulders.

You quickly scan your mind for something to say. Looking over to the room off to the side, you notice the black electric one that looks like the one you have at home. You were upset that you had to leave it at home. Plus, you were afraid of forgetting how to play.

"Do you mind if I try to play something on one of those guitars?" You ask him. Somehow you had forgotten to tell him that you have been playing for a little over a year.

"Sure. Would you like for me to show you some chords?" He asks you standing up.

You stand up beside him. “No, let me see if I can figure something out." You know this will blow his mind when you pick it up and start playing one of their songs.

Isaac turns the radio off while you go over and pick up the guitar. You find the amp and plug it in. You check to make sure it is in tune and lucky for you, it is. You’re not exactly sure which song to play. You only have a few memorized of theirs. The rest is the collection of various artists that you use to listen to when you were much younger. You quickly decide on playing "A Minute Without You.” It is your favorite song and is very easy to play. As you start in on the first verse, Isaac looks at you.

"Why you little sneak. You know how to play.” He tells you with a smile.

"Yep." You muster out while concentrating.

After the second verse you stop playing.

"I had forgotten to mention that I have been playing for a little over a year. I have missed my guitar. I had to leave it at home 'cause we didn't have room to bring it. I am so afraid of getting out of practice." You tell him smiling.

"Doesn't sound like you are out of practice to me," he tells you, "play something else."

Blown away that he actually wants to hear you play something else, you just start picking chords out of the air to play, easy chords though, you definetly don’t want to mess up. Taking your attention off of your fingers on the frets, you look up into Isaac's deep brown eyes. It seems like you have just started playing, but you stop. You and Isaac sit there looking into each other's eyes. No one says anything to each other. You can't stand the silence.

"What time is it?" You ask him feeling incredibly dumb that you 'broke the moment.'

"It's quarter till 4:00," he tells you with a smile, "we should probably start getting you home. Hey Tay, we need to get them back!" He shouts to Taylor in the other room.

They come out and the four of you pile back into Isaac's car. And before you know it, you are pulling into the parking lot of your hotel.
