the pain of unrequited love

you think that if you hide from me, i won't notice you.
you do not know that in your attempts to hide,
you are only made more visible.
i see you enclosed in a life you are merely observing.
you think not of what you need because you only fulfill your wants.
i know that i am what you need,
but i know i am not what you want.
i'm sorry i am not shallow enough to be desired by you.
i'm sorry i cannot be a trophy you set on a pedestal
i'm sorry that i've always wanted someone
who does not want me in return
i hope deep down you're sorry for hurting me,
but i know you really aren't.
so for now, i'd be content, if you would stop tormenting me
so i can mend my emotional wounds
in the aftermath of unrequited love.
