We adopted Denver from the pound when he was 9 months old. He didn't have all this hair back then. He actually was coated more like a golden. Everyone seems to agree he's part cocker... but do you have any guesses on the other parts? Cousin It maybe? His card said "hard to handle". And he was. He had seperation anxieties, was bull headed, and use to running the show. We were at least his 3rd family. The first few weeks we had him, there were times I thought we had made a mistake. He would nip at us for putting our arms around him or petting when it wasn't ok with him. He didn't listen to anything. The poor baby just didn't see the need to learn rules when in his mind this family was just temporary. We had to keep a length of lead hanging off his collar (he chewed it as short as he could), this was so we could get ahold of his collar when he was jumping away from us. When we would get ahold of him he would buck and twist his body while biting at our hands. Not with fear but with the defiant attitude that he has. NO one was gonna tell him what to do! Now he is a well behaved dog, (hmmm.. Denver has been with us since the summer of 94. He's not the most obedient dog I have ever owned, but he's the BEST. :-) He shares our lives with Tissy, a 9 yr. old "perfect cat", my 12 yr old son, Josh ("his boy"), and a recently adopted Tokyo. Josh along with us.. can't help but give a grin when we look at that soft, sweet, silly pound puppy with an attitude!
They were taken right after he blew his winter coat!

![]() Denver is an alpha type dog. That's where his bullheadedness comes from. It's hard to remember the proper way to handle him when he's so darn cute.
