Chapter 15
Danielle watched, sitting at the top of the front hall's stairs, as this rather large family walked into her house. They were the Hanson family. She noticed the three boys, Hanson, and their siblings and nice-looking parents. Her mother took all their coats and the two gifts and led them into their soon-to-be living room. They were slightly out of view now, but not much. Danielle could still see Isaac and Taylor. She strained to watch their lips to see what they were saying. Then she realized that they were talking about her. They want to see me? But why...? she asked herself.

Suddenly, her mother came into view. Donna was walking from the living room to the kitchen when she spotted Danielle sitting on the stairs in the front hall. Mrs. Lemasters walked up and brought the reluctant teen into the living room.

"...and here is my daughter, Danielle," Danielle saw Donna saying to the Hanson family as they entered. Everybody smiled and all Danielle could do was smile back. Oh my god, do they know I'm deaf? she asked herself. She looked back to her mother's face. Mrs. Lemasters was saying, "...Danielle is deaf, but she can read lips like a pro and..."

Danielle's face turned a bright red as she looked away from her mother and down at the floor. She looked up cautiously at the three brothers. They were smiling at her. She looked at the eldest child's face. Is that Isaac? she thought Yes, that's Ike. That look...why is he giving me that look...?

It appeared to Danielle that Isaac had a crush on her, but she didn't say anything. She shifted her glance to Taylor. He appeared extremely nervous. Lastly, she looked at little Zac. Danielle thought Zac looks like he wants to just get up and leave...he's so squirmish and she giggled. Then, Donna told Danielle to sit down next to Isaac and said that she would translate any words that her daughter needed to say to the three. Danielle blushed as she sat down. Ike smiled and, making sure she was looking at his mouth, said, "Hey, I'm Isaac. This is Taylor and Zac." He pointed to each of them. Danielle nodded and shook their hands.

Then she told Hanson, in sign language, that she knew them because she'd seen them and read about them in her magazines. Donna told them what Danielle had said. They smiled and Ike said, "Yes, we ARE kinda famous...". Zac nudged him with his elbow and said to Danielle, "Actually, we're really famous!!"

Danielle giggled at their "brotherly love". Then Donna invited everyone for a snack, but Mrs. Hanson declined. She said that everybody should come over to their house to eat, since the Lemasters's house wasn't quite ready for guests. So they all grabbed their coats and walked over to the Hanson's house. Danielle walked beside the three eldest brothers on the way.

As the eleven people walked up to the Hanson house, Danielle noticed those "No Trespassing" signs again, only now she knew whose house they belonged to. They all walked inside and Mr. Hanson took everybody's coats and hung them on their coat rack. Danielle laughed as Avery, the smaller Hanson sister, took her hand and started dragging her upstairs. Probably to show Danielle her room and her many Barbies. Diana smiled and told Avie to be patient because everybody needed to eat first.

The four adults fixed baloney sandwiches for Mackenzie and Zac, Avie and Jessica had peanut butter and jelly, Taylor, Danielle, and Isaac each had some chicken. Ralph, Donna, Diana, and Walker sat down in the Hanson's living room and had tea. They were still talking when the kids finished and they were wanting to give Danielle a tour of their house.

Chapter 16
Isaac chewed on the last bite of his chicken. They were having the Lemasters over and everyone was eating a snack/lunch. He glanced at the kitchen clock. 4:39. Then he stole a look at Danielle. She was daintily chewing her chicken. She suddenly glanced at him, but then quickly looked away, blushing. He smiled to himself and looked away, too. There wasn't much conversation. Probably because they didn't want to exclude Danielle from it.

All the kids finished and put their stuff in the sink. Jessie asked Ike if she could take Danielle on a tour of the house. Isaac replied, "Well, whoever wants to can come along, or it won't be fair."

They seemed satisfied with that. Mackie had to take his afternoon nap, so Zac took him up. While they waited for Zac, Danielle said to Isaac in the best audible English she could manage, "Zac is good with your littlest brother."

Ike smiled, a bit surprised at her speaking, and nodded, "Yeah, he likes him a lot."

He likes him a lot?! Isaac thought to himself critically, What kind of answer was that?

Zac finally came down. He said, "We kinda haveta be quiet around Mack's room so he doesn't wake up and gets all cranky," and chuckled.

Avery and Jessie decided to wait in their room until Danielle came in because they didn't want to go through the whole house, they just wanted Danielle to go to their room only. Ike thought, It's just me, and her. And Taylor and Zac... He sighed. The four started the tour at the front door.

Seven minutes later, the Hanson brothers and Danielle found themselves in the brothers' room. Isaac looked at Danielle. She was looking around their room, observing it, even. She asked Taylor, in her best voice, "You have two closets. What's in this one?"

He responded, "We have outgrown clothes in that one, but in there," he pointed at their other closet, "well, we throw our dirty socks in there."

She giggled and the three boys grinned. Curiously, she looked at their huge, gray table in the middle of the room. Zac said, "Oh, that's where we play with our Legos," and he snickered.

Danielle nodded. Then she followed the three boys into their sisters' room. They were, obviously, playing with some Barbie dolls. Danielle smiled at the scene. Isaac thought to himself, Sure, she thinks it's cute NOW...

After about an hour, the guys led Danielle from the girls' room and they finally went downstairs. Danielle walked to her mother and sat down. Donna smiled and said something to Danielle in sign language. She grinned and made rapid movements of sign language back to her mother. All the while, Ike, Taylor, and Zac had no idea what was going on. However, Mrs. Hanson had taken a class in sign language and had studied the language, so she knew what they were saying. Seeing the confused looks on her sons' faces, she translated to them what the mother and daughter were saying. Diana said, "Donna was just asking her daughter what took her so long to do the tour, and Danielle told her that your sisters occupied her with Barbies."

The living room took on a friendlier atmosphere. Finally, Danielle and her parents were just about ready to leave. Isaac was disappointed, but he knew that he would be seeing a lot of her, or so he hoped. Anyway, they were home for a vacation and she lived practically right next door. As the three left the Hanson home, Ike leaned against one of the front hall's walls and sighed dreamily. Danielle looked back at the Hansons right before the door closed on them, and smiled directly at Isaac.
