Holiday Homemade Candy Recipes

With visions of candy dancing through there heads.... these easy homemade candy recipes are a real hit with family and friends.


Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patties


  • 1 cup mashed potatoes
  • 7 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 8 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons shortening


Cream together the potatoes, sugar, salt, butter and peppermint. Knead slightly and roll into cherry size balls. Extra icing sugar may be needed depending upon the dampness of the potatoes.
Flatten balls to form patties and allow to dry overnight.
Melt semi-sweet chocolate and paraffin in top of double boiler. Mix well and keep melted over hot water (Do not allow water to boil). Dip patties in chocolate and let cool on wax paper.

Chocolate Nut Clusters

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
  • 1 ounce white chocolate, melted


Line 2 mini muffin pans with liners.
Melt chocolate chips in microwave on high for 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in nuts.
Drop chocolate nut mixture by teaspoonfuls into the muffin cups. Drip just a little melted white chocolate into the center of the cup. Using a toothpick, swirl the white chocolate through the chocolate. Cool, keep in fridge in air tight container.

Holiday Turtle Candy


  • 4 ounces pecan halves
  • 24 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 teaspoon shortening
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Cover cookies sheet with aluminum foil, shiny side exposed. Lightly grease foil with vegetable oil spray.
Place 3 pecan halves in a Y shape on the foil. Place 1 caramel candy in the center of each Y. Bake just until caramel is melted, about 9 to 10 minutes.
Heat shortening and chocolate chips over low heat just until chocolate is melted. Spread over candies and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Glazed Nuts

Use any kind of nut for this recipe.


  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound walnut halves


Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Coat a baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray.
In a large bowl, beat egg white until foamy. Stir in brown sugar, spices, and vanilla. Add nuts, and stir to coat. Spread evenly over prepared pan.
Bake for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until well toasted and golden brown. Remove from oven, and cool completely. Store in an air tight container.
