Somewhere, Someday

Somewhere, Someday

Driving through New Orleans on this crisp October night, she was reminded of why she loved this city. It was party central, a bar or a club everywhere you turned. But if you drove out a few miles the place became almost magical, it was full of the grandeur and southern charm leftover from a time long gone. And this is where she was headed on that night. To a costume ball at one of the old mansions.

She didn’t know what made her go, there were thousands of Halloween parties going on all over town. She had finally concluded it was the charming estate that had drawn her, and the idea to go as Scarlet O’Hara was to perfect to pass up.

As she made her way up the walkway to the main entrance, she couldn’t help but be amazed by the beauty of the place. Peering up through the majestic, moss draped oak trees she could see the stars shining brightly against the deep blue velvet sky. She watched as two shooting stars chased each other across the sky.

She finally entered the party, making her way down the grand staircase. Halfway down she saw him, the handsome dark haired stranger, the one who seemed so familiar although she was sure they had never met. He was dressed as none other then Rhett Butler. Her eyes met his captivating blue ones and she gasped. Without a word she continued her decent down the stairs and he made his way across the room to meet her. He held out a hand for her and she took it. Silently, eyes still locked on each other, he led her outside. They stood out on the balcony, admiring the beautiful garden that surrounded it, and listened as the music as it drifted out to them. For a moment they just stood there under the stars, staring into each other's eyes. Something, something in his eyes stirred a part of her soul she didn’t know was there. His eyes gazed at her with an intensity she knew was mirrored in her own.

A slow song started playing, and they danced together, still gazing into each others eyes. No words were spoken, and none were necessary. At that moment, their souls touched and they communicated better then any words ever could. She saw the depths of his soul swirling in his eyes, and it reminded her. Brought back memories from before her time. Memories that hadn’t existed until this moment.

**flashback**
She stood on the steps of a mansion much like this one. Crying, begging him not to go. Pleading with him not to leave her. He stood before her in his confederate uniform, looking sad but determined.

“I have to go. Please understand.” She looked at him sadly, knowing he wouldn’t be back.

“I can’t live without you.” She whispered, a solitary tear sliding slowly across her cheek.

“Listen to me.” he said, cupping her face softly in his hands and tuning her to look directly into his eyes. Those dazzling blue eyes of his, that were fire and ice all at once. The ones that revealed his every thought. The ones that would haunt her dreams and be permanently ingrained in her memory, when that was all she had left of him. “listen. I will come back for you. Somewhere, someday, we will be together again. I promise.”

He kissed her softly and looked into her eyes one more time before turning around and walking away. She watched him disappear over the horizon, knowing he wouldn’t break his promise.

"somewhere, someday" his words echoed in her mind. Until then. she thought, drying her eyes.

* * * *
“I’ve loved you forever, In lifetimes before,

And I promise you never, Will you hurt anymore.

I give you my word, I give you my heart,

This is a battle we’ve won.

And with this vow, forever has now begun...”

They swayed in time to the music, holding each other close.

“I told you we’d be together again. I love you. I always have. I’m never leaving you again.”

It didn’t matter about the lifetimes of heartache before this one, all that mattered was that they were finally together, and this time it was forever. They were greatful that destiny had led them back where they belonged, in each others arms.
