Taylor laid on his bed watching the TV when he heard a knock on the door. He wasn't used to people knocking, Ron and Holden just came and went as they pleased. A man who looked to be in his late 40's come into the room. He was a bit smaller than Ron, but still a pretty big guy. Taylor sat up when he came in.
"I'm here to take you outside, come on, let's go" he said. Taylor got up and walked over to him. The man pulled out a small gun. Taylor sighed when he saw it. It made him feel nervous. They walked out of the room and down the hall. The man opened up the door at the end of the hall and they walked into the entry way. The man opened to front door and they went outside. Taylor looked around him, they really were in the middle of nowhere. Then he saw it, the black car Mark had brought him in was still there. He felt butterflies in his stomach when he saw it. Now he just had to figure out how to get to it. He sat down on the steps in front of the front door. The man who brought him out there was quiet. Taylor looked up at him.
"What's your name?" Taylor asked. The man looked at him and hesitated.
"Brian" he answered. Taylor decided he'd try to start a conversation with him.
"Do you have kids?" Taylor asked. Brian turned his head away.
"I'm not at liberty to answer any of your questions, kid" he told him.
"I know, but, they're just harmless questions. Do you have any kids?" Taylor asked again. Brian sighed.
"Two daughters"
"How would you feel if someone kidnapped them?" Taylor asked, he looked over at the car wanting so badly to go to it and see if his phone was still there. Brian looked back at Taylor.
"I'd feel terrible" he said. Taylor could tell that this man really didn't want to be helping out with his kidnapping.
"Why are you part of this?" Taylor asked seriously, looking up at him again.
"I need the money" he said, feeling almost ashamed. Taylor was tired of hearing that excuse.
"Why don't you just get a real job?" Taylor said, once again turning his head to look at the car. Brian became angry and he stepped closer to Taylor. Taylor looked back at him.
"Other jobs don't pay like this one does" he told him. Taylor crinkled his forehead.
"You realize the risks involved in this? You know I'm not just some regular kid right? My family has the best people out there looking for me right now and tons of people know who I am. When they find me you'll go to jail and you won't see your daughters. Those a pretty big risks man. I don't care what you're getting paid" Taylor told him, trying hard to believe everything he just said. Brian let out a laugh.
"I don't think you quite understand Ron's plans, kid. No one's going to find you. Ron has been planning this for years. Plus, in another week I'm out of here. I'm getting paid and I'm gone" Brian said. Taylor looked at him and shook his head.
"That's what Mark thought and look what happened to him" Taylor said, remembering how he watched him get shot. He closed his eyes trying to shake the image away. Brian didn't reply, he just looked away. Taylor realized he shouldn't make Brian mad and he knew he had to get to that car. After about a minute of silence Taylor spoke.
"That's a pretty sweet car right there" Taylor said, trying to sound like he was truly interested in cars when in reality he knew nothing about them other than how to drive them. Brian looked at the car and didn't say anything.
"Can I go look at it?" Taylor asked. Brian gave him a weird look, "I'm really into cars. I was kind of thinking of buying one like that" Taylor lied. Taylor stood up and began to walk toward the car.
"Hey kid!" Brian yelled. Taylor turned around and looked at him.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm just going to look at the car. Like I'm going to run away from you when you have that" Taylor said. Brian looked down at the gun in his hand.
"Just a quick look. We have to go back in soon anyway" Brian said. Taylor nodded and walked over to the car. The windows were tinted so he couldn't see the inside. He had to get into the car, hopefully it wasn't locked. He went to the other side of the car and opened the back door.
"What are you doing?" Brian asked, walking to the car. Taylor looked in the back seat and began to feverishly search for his phone. He looked up and noticed Brian was coming toward him. The phone wasn't on the seat where Mark had thrown it. Taylor began to feel around under the seats, between the cushions. Then he saw it, under the seat. He reached for it, grabbed it, and quickly slipped it in his pocket. He pulled his head out of the car and shut the door.
"Just looking at the interior" Taylor said smiling. Brian just looked at him.
"Come on, it's time to go back to your room" he said.
