PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE/MANCHESTER TRANSIT AUTHORITY

Manchester, New Hampshire

All-time Roster From 1940-1994

This page lists all buses purchased by the Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH) and the Manchester Transit Authority between 1940 and 1994. There may be some gaps in between the PSNH and MTA purchases, so if anyone knows of any missing orders between 1947 and 1975 - if there were any - please send me an email.

For those unfamiliar with PSNH, the Public Service Company of New Hampshire originated from the acquisition of the Manchester Traction, Power, and Light Company and several smaller utilities in 1926. It appears that streetcar service was discontinued around the PSNH takeover, with the first buses being purchased in 1940. PSNH is now the state of New Hampshire's main electricity provider.

In 1955, John Moran and Tom Burke purchased the routes from PSNH, and ran the service under the name Manchester Transit, Inc. In 1970, Union Street, Inc. took over operation of the Manchester Transit system until the formation of the city-owned Manchester Transit Authority on June 11, 1973.

MTA #208 is now part of Dreamliner Bus Leasing's Historic Bus Collection.

The current fleet also consists of four Orion I's from 1991, one ElDorado RE, and several 1996 Thomas Vistas. Sadly, the Fishbowls were retired from service between 1996 and 1997, save for #107 and #115.

(Thanks to Mark Watson, "BUSone" and J.D. Wolfe for the updated info.)

If anyone knows and additional background of the MTA buses, please send me an email.

Thanks in advance for any help, and enjoy!
