Kayaking and canoeing around Keuka LakeThere are several opportunities to kayak or canoe in the Keuka Lake area. The easiest of these is the river running through the town of Bath. The river flows at a slow to medium speed and makes for an enjoyable and relaxing ride. The river is accessible just above town and launch sites are know to locals, such as, Patrick Congdon. The river is only travelable in the spring when the river is high. Throughout the summer other opportunities that are more demanding are available. The closest kayaking river is located at Latchworth State Park. Another option is the Snake River which is approximately two hours away. They have scheduled releases and usually offer Class II - III rapids. Occasionally, there is a larger release that increases the water flow and force. The final Kayaking option is the Black River which is slightly farther away. Both the Snake and the Black require overnight stay. This is usually accomplished in local campgrounds and is a lot of fun because it is a meeting place for other Kayakers. Shore Acres member, Tom Congdon, is a veteran kayaker and knows the local rivers and other kayakers. He is a great resource in this area and can be found at the Congdon Cottage throughout the summer.
