Freaks In The Hall - Chapter 6

Ashley beeped the horn of her mom's BMW as she sat outside of her house. Blasting from the speakers was some Green Day, and Ashley was rocking out as Nisa opened the door.

"Holy fuck…you actually drive this thing?!" she exclaimed, getting inside and putting on her seat belt.

Ashley laughed. "It's moms, but it moves. Check this out," she replied, hitting the gas and peeling wheels down the street. Nisa was in shock at Ashley's kick ass attitude. Then she noticed what was on the radio.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, Green Day? I pictured you to be more of a Celine Dion kinda girl," she said. Ashley looked at her like she was nuts.

"If you don't like it, there's Rancid under the seat," she replied.

Nisa thought a moment. "Let me get this straight. You're a total absolute 100% preppy hard-core rich kid, no offense..."

"None taken." "

And you listen to Green Day and Rancid, hang out with all the punks, and drive like you're immortal. What's the deal?" she asked.

Ashley shrugged. "I wasn't raised to be punky, I guess. I've always been the country-club, horseback riding, plays well with other's and Barbie dolls chick," she replied. Nisa nodded, but still didn't quite get it. They pulled in front of Ashley's house and got out, and again, Nisa was floored. "Just don't say it," Ashley said, laughing. She led her inside and upstairs, and her mother soon followed. Just as Ashley had shut her bedroom door, her mother knocked gently.

"Sweetheart?" she asked. Ashley rolled her eyes.

"Come in!" she replied. The door opened, and her mother's mouth dropped at the sight of what Ashley had brought home. Staring at Nisa's electric blue hair, Dickie's and ripped up MxPx shirt, she attempted to speak.

"I…well...I know I told you I wouldn't be home when our guest came over but I couldn't resist meeting this…nice…young…lady," she managed to choke out. Ashley was humiliated by her mother's reaction, and she knew that Nisa had to be uncomfortable.

"Hi, Mrs. Boyd! I'm Nisa Andrews, welcome to Waldorf!" Nisa exclaimed, standing up and shaking her hand. Her mother smiled at Nisa, then at Ashley. She felt terrible about judging such a nice girl just by the way she looked.

"Well, aren't you just the nicest thing!" she exclaimed, patting her on the back. Nisa smiled. "Okay girls, what would you like for lunch? I can order from Nicholi Pasturs if you'd like, I heard they have a wonderful flamengon!" she exclaimed. Nisa's eyes bugged out of her head. Nicholi Pasturs was the most expensive restaurant in Waldorf.

"I was thinking more like…pizza?" Ashley replied, trying to be as normal as possible.

Nisa nodded frantically. "Pizza sounds terrific," she replied.

Her mother sighed. "You kids and that pizza! I'll order it to be here in about an hour?" she asked. Ashley nodded. "Okay sweetie, anything you need you just ask. You too Nisa," she replied, winking at her. Nisa winked back, and she left and shut the door.

"What the fuck! You are so motherfucking rich! I've never seen anything like this," Nisa said, running around the room and touching everything. Ashley laughed nervously. She finally sat down in one of the large butterfly chairs and relaxed. "So, what was New York life like?" she asked. Ashley told her everything about Manhatten, her friends there, and what her house used to look like. The pizza arrived, and Nisa gave Ashley the scoop on Waldorf while they ate. It was five o'clock before they finally finished talking about everything. "So, do you seriously like wearing all this stuff?" Nisa said, flipping through Ashley's closet.

"It's okay, I guess. But, honestly, I want to dress more like…well…you do." Nisa hung the shirt she was looking at back in the closet and sat on the bed next to Ashley.

"What do you say we go to the mall and find your inner punk?" she asked with glimmering eyes. Ashley beamed. She finally had a chance to blend in, shop, and hang out with her new best friend. She grabbed her purse and the keys to the Hummer. They would need a truck for all the clothes they would bring home.
