***** Morgan watched as his car pulled up and silently stood up. He walked up to the front stoop and rang the bell. She slowly pulled it open and he looked at her. “ Leaving already?” She finally managed. He nodded, his eyes shifting to the stairs. “ Can I see Amelia?” Morgan led the way upstairs to where she was asleep and knew they both were bidding for time. He looked inside the crib and stroked her cheek. “ Can I hold her?” Morgan nodded, her eyes welling up when he reached over and picked her up, pressing her close to himself. Mor looked away and willed the tears to disappear. He talked to Amelia softly before finally turning to Morgan. “ I brought my camera...Can I get a picture of the three of us?” He asked quietly and she moved to his side reluctantly. He took the picture and slipped his camera back in his pocket before replacing Amelia in her crib. She stirred before lying still again. Nick turned to Morgan. “ You know this is for the best, right?” Morgan’s eyes filled with tears again and she hated herself for letting him see her cry. “ Mor-...” All the time of them being together had slipped away and now led up him leaving. He wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace and she knew he was letting some of his tears fall as well. This was it. Alll they lived for that one night had led to this. Back to lonliness. “ You don’t have to do this,” She whispered when they pulled away, cradling his face in her hands, just wanting to be able to touch him, to hold on to the remnants of one night’s mistakes but knowing they were already to far apart to fix. He kissed her softly, filled with nothing but sadness and neediness. “ One day we’ll say this was right,” He said to her, running his fingers through her hair. “ If it’s right, why is it hard to say goodbye?” She closed her eyes and leaned against him. “ I’ve always hated goodbyes,” He murmered and she laughed slightly at that, remembering the times back in New York. They finally pulled away and she looked at him. “ I’ve gotta get going,” He said, his voice thick with emotion. “ I’ll walk you down,” She said, sniffling. They made their way downstairs and to the the front door. She stood out on the porch. “ Maybe I’ll see ya sometime,” He said before abruptly turning away from her tears. “ They’re waiting for me at Gabrial’s...” She nodded. “ I understand,” He started walking to the car. “ Hey, Mor,” He called as she turned to walk back inside the house. “ Don’t forget about me,” He stopped for a second, their eyes locked before he opened the cardoor. She stood in the doorframe and watched as he pulled away after one last glance at her and the house. “ I love you,” She whispered to the wind as the snowflakes started to fall, the snow that had started everything. She silently turned and walked inside her house, letting the door shut quietly...
