Chapter Seven

*****
AJ sat on his couch in silence. He had gotten used to the forlorn feeling that life on the road had brought but this was just too ridiculous. Not only was he feeling lonely, he was angry and disgusted. Angry and disgusted about really stupid stuff but that anger in itself made him feel better. Angry at Nick and his blonde hair, Skylee and her damn out of sight tattoo, Howie for being so goddamn happy all the time, Kev for his eyebrows, their manager for taking him out of the solitude of his home, and more importantly, angry at himself for just being here. Next door, he could hear Brian playing playstation and he sighed.
“ Can’t escape that shitty music,” He muttered angrily, standing up. If he was gonna feel this bad, he wanted to do it in peace. He switched on the stereo and put in Rage Against The Machine, turning up the volume so maybe Bri would get the point. His cell rang and he answered it reluctantly.
“ Hello?”
“ AJ, Hey, man, we’re all gonna go clubbing, you wanna come?” Howie asked.
“ No, thanks,”
“ No? Why not? That’s a first,”
“ I’m not in the mood to go, D,”
“ You haven’t been in the mood to do anything at all today, You OK?”
“ Yes, I’m fine. Why does everybody ask that?” He asked in an aggravated tone.
“ Because you’re a strange guy, we all worry about you,”
“ Well, you shouldn’t,”
“ You shouldn’t act so unstable all the time, then, Bone,”
“ Unst-Nevermind. I gotta go, Howie,”
“ Do you have someone over?”
“ NO, I don’t, Bye, Howie,”
“ Hey, Skylee’s coming,” AJ waited but Howie didn’t say anything else.
“ And? I’m definitely not coming now,”
“ Ok, I’ll talk to ya later, AJ,” AJ hung up and tossed the phone on the couch. He walked over to the glass balcony doors and rested his forehead on the cool surface, wondering if he should get out of the hotel to distract himself. Making up his mind, he strided to the door. AJ knocked on Brian’s door as he walked past, doubting if he could hear it over the TV. He got into the elevator and was deciding over which drink to buy when the elevator stopped and Sherry, the girl from Nobody’s Angel climbed in the elevator. He watched her as she smiled flirtatiously. He returned the smile and discreetly checked her out. She caught his gaze and met his eyes.
“ Aren’t you Sherry?”
“ Yeah, I am, and you’re AJ, right?”
“ Yes, I am. Where are you headed to?” He asked evenly.
“ To the Blue Moon Lounge,”
“ Oh, really? How about I buy you a drink? I was going there myself,” He said, needing some company.
“ Yeah, Ok. Sounds good,” AJ smiled to himself as the elevator stopped and they walked out. Walking after her, they entered the Blue Moon Lounge. AJ instinctively glanced over the crowd when he caught sight of Skylee flirting with some guy. He felt another little bubble of anger and he followed Sherry to the bar. Ten minutes later, she excused herself to go to the bathroom and Skylee walked over to AJ.
“ Nice catch ya found yourself,” She said slinkily, sitting in Sherry’s seat.
“ Not doing too bad yourself, Already drunk by 11:00, huh?”
“ Aren’t you supposed to be with everyone else, clubbing?”
“ Howie said you’d be there so I turned him down,” AJ replied smugly, taking another sip of his drink.
“ Oh, really? How nice of you,” She said, her tone changing to dryness.
“ How come you didn’t go with them?”
“ Crossing over to ‘Skylee’s’ life again,”
“ Excuse me, but you came here and sat down,” She stood up and gave him another glance before walking away. AJ watched her sit back down at the table with the guy he saw her with before.
“ OK, I’m back,” Sherry said a few minutes later. AJ looked up and smiled at her, truly determined to have a good time...
