Chapter Four

Friday

Kevin’s house was pure chaos when Skylee woke up at 5:30.
“ No, that trunk- Kris, could you please hold that damn cat-”
“ Kev, when are the buses coming-”
“ AJ, I’m slightly busy-”
“CRASH-” Silence followed.
“ Oops...” Skylee heard Nick say sheepishly.
“ Nick.Carter.Get.That.Damn.Ball.Away.From.Me,” Kev said through clenched teeth.
“ I’m really sor-”
“ Hey, who ordered pizza?”
“ Oh, that’d be me-” Howie called from the kitchen. Skylee sighed and rolled over, wishing she could get back to sleep, but knowing she should have been up an hour ago. Yawning loudly, she got out of bed and stumbled over her suitcases piled in the middle of the room.
“Ouch,” She muttered, squinting to make out where everything was in the dark room. After taking a quick shower and changing into a pair of olive green shorts and a black v-neck tank top, she pulled her hair back into a ponytail and looked in the closet to make sure she had everything. Pulling on her messenger bag, she grasped the two heavy suitcases ( she already has two in the living room) and proceeded downstairs cautiously.
“ ‘Morning,” She greeted half-heartedly. AJ was the only one in the living room and he stood up when she appeared on the stairs.
“ Here, let me get those,” He said, taking the suitcases from her and walking down the rest of the stairs.
“ Thanks,” She replied politely. AJ studied her face, wanting to attempt at a conversation when Nick walked in.
“ Oh, hey, Skylee,” He smiled at her, giving her a hug.
“ Hey, Nick. What’dja break?” She asked in a teasing voice.
“ You heard that? It was just this little vase,”
“ Probably worth only a small fortune, right?”
“ Haha, you’re funny,” He jeered jokingly.
“ Go get some breakfast, we’re leaving in like, ten minutes,” He said, glancing at AJ who had settled himself back on the couch, flipping channels. She nodded and walked off in the direction of the kitchen.
“ You Ok, man?” Nick asked AJ.
“ Yeah,” He replied absently, watching an infomercial on onion bloomers.
“ Are you pissed about Sky-”
“ Look, Nick, it was nothing in the first place, it hasn’t progressed...” He turned off the TV and stood up.
“ I’m waiting outside,” He muttered, opening the door and walking out. Nick shook his head, having a feeling that this tour would be...Interesting...

Skylee drank her coffee and watched Kevin run around the house, checking on last minute stuff. Finally, the buses pulled up and everyone at the table stood up. As Kevin said goodbye to his wife, the others got on the bus and split the bunks. Sky took her messenger bag and put it in the upper bunk she was given. Not sure if it’d be OK to go to sleep already, she walked to the back, in the entertainment room and sat down next to Nick and Brian who had already hooked up the Playstation.
“ Wanna play, cuz?” Brian asked, looking at her over his shoulder.
“ No, thanks,” She answered, leaning back and watching.
“ Oh, God, I was hoping you forgot that shit,” AJ moaned as he walked in, looking at the Playstation in distaste.
“ You’ll get sick of that annoying music by the third straight day,” He said to Skylee, settling down with a magazine on one of the side couches. Pretty soon, the bus started moving and the scenery whizzed by.
“ I’m going to take a nap,” She said, standing up and walking over to her bunk...

*****

Kevin looked up as Sky walked in the room at 10:30.
“ Feeling better?”
“ Um...Yeah,” She looked at the cereal box on the table and wrinkled her nose.
“ Is there anything to eat?”
“ Yeah, look in the kitchenette,”
“ Kitchenette?” She murmured to herself as she walked through the small door. AJ glanced up from the TV.
“ Hey,” He greeted, almost uninterestedly.
“ Hi,” She pulled open the refrigerator door and looked through the contents. Pulling out a frozen dinner, she popped it in the microwave and leaned against the counter, watching the trees whiz by. The tv’s volume was turned up but AJ leaned over and turned it down.
“ Honestly, Skylee, do you want to be here?” He asked, sick of being overly fake and nice to her.
“ No, I don’t. And I wasn’t planning on saying something I didn’t mean in the first place,” She replied, looking him straight in the eye.
“ Really? Why don’t you like me?” He challenged.
“ Because you’re an arrogant hotshot,”
“ How do you know that?”
“ Because you were so sure I’d fall for your shit the way your fans do...I’ve seen how you act towards them; charming but too sure of yourself,” He gazed at her, wondering if she was for real.
“ Well, you’re not very friendly, what else can I do? You haven’t even made an attempt to try to be nice to anyone here besides Nick,”
“ At least I can tell whether he’s bullshiting or not. I don’t know you or any one of the others besides Brian, and I don’t really mind, I’m leaving this place as soon as I can,”
“ So you are, in no way, shape, or form, gonna be sociable to the rest of us?”
“ Nope, not really,”
“ When are you gonna go?”
“ Whenever the time calls for it,” She answered. AJ looked at her sharply and chuckled.
“ Shit, you shouldn’t have told me that, I don’t hold alibis for other people unless I’m real close to them,”
“ I don’t need you to hold an alibi for me,”
“ Oh yeah, that’d be Nicky boy, right,” Sky turned and took out the little tray of food.
“ You can’t be serious, you’re actually gonna run away? Why? Why are you so pissy about life?”
“ I’m sorry, I don’t confide in people unless I want to consider them as a friend,”
“ You already told me about-”
“ Did you find something to eat?” Kevin asked, walking in. Skylee threw a glare at AJ and he smiled back at her, sneering.
“ Yeah, I did,” Sky told Kevin, looking pointedly at the tray. Kev grabbed a drink and left a sec later. Skylee seized a fork, ready to leave.
“ What, we can’t finish this wonderful conversation?”
“ What conversation?” She retorted.
“ You know what you could do, AJ? You could leave me alone. How about that?” She walked out and he stared dismally at the tv. Trying to become at least friends with Skylee Richardson was useless.
