PRESS RELEASE - JULY 14, 1998

Global Email Connectivity Service Now Compatible with All Leading LAN Email Systems

CHICAGO, Illinois, (Internet World), July 14, 1998 - The Electric Mail Company Inc. (VSE:ELE) announced today that its flagship Electric InterConnect service is now fully compatible with all the leading LAN based email systems and is in use at customer sites using Lotus Notes, cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise systems. The recently launched Electric InterConnect service is an industry first for email outsourcing as it offers global connectivity with no long distance or 1-800# fees, and operates with or without dedicated Internet access. Interoperable between different LAN email systems, Electric InterConnect eliminates the need for complex SMTP gateways and dramatically reduces the cost of connecting single or multiple email systems to the Internet.

"These five products together account for almost 46% of all installed corporate mailboxes, and more than 90% of the new purchases made this year," noted Eric Arnum, Editor of industry newsletter Electronic Mail & Messaging Systems (EMMS). "Many companies are faced with the daunting task of managing mixed environments that include two or three of these five. Given this situation, the ability to link any and all of the leading LAN-based mail systems to the Internet with one service could be very valuable to enterprise IS managers."

"The Electric InterConnect service positions The Electric Mail Company and our resellers with an unprecedented global market opportunity for corporate email services. System compatibility with all the leading LAN email systems, in combination with our low cost global connectivity, presents a simple enterprise-wide messaging solution," said Cathy Munn, President & CEO of The Electric Mail Company. "Businesses of all sizes are seeking affordable, needs-driven technologies that will ensure their messaging is reliable and secure. Electric InterConnect has proven ideal for businesses with offices located worldwide that require reliable email connectivity."

Commenting on Electric InterConnect, Carey True, Director of Fujifilm Canada said,"Zero administration is the greatest thing about using a service like Electric InterConnect, and we also realize a substantial financial advantage. Getting stable, reliable Internet messaging without the investment or administrative overhead of managing an Internet connection is a great combination in my book."

Free Spam Filtering Included

Businesses utilizing the Electric InterConnect service also receive automatic spam filtering at no extra charge. All incoming messages are filtered at the Electric Mail Company Distribution Hub using several industry-proven tools for detecting and discarding unsolicited commercial bulk email.

Price and Delivery

Base price is US$110 per month for 20 users, plus an initial set-up fee. Electric InterConnect service requires a dedicated Windows 95 or NT system on the LAN, and supports either a modem or dedicated Internet connection.
