Don't Get Lost: ActiveNames Keeps Track of Your Email Addresses

ActiveNames is a free and easy-to-use method to keep friends, family, and business associates -- virtually anyone -- from getting "lost" when they change email addresses. Once a member joins, ActiveNames automatically tracks email addresses that are cancelled, abandoned, or changed and instantly redirects messages to the new address provided for that user.

Whenever an email message is sent from one ActiveNames member to another, ActiveNames transparently intercepts the message, verifies the most recent address on the ActiveNames server, and sends the message to its correct destination. This process takes less than two-tenths of one second and is not noticeable to the sender. ActiveNames maintains a server farm in New York which is currently scaleable to accommodate as many as 2 billion users. The software supports users of Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems.

Why ActiveNames?

Everyone is on the move today. People find new careers, change jobs, travel, and relocate around the world. Even without physically moving, things change. Email users switch Internet Service Providers to get a better deal, attractive features, or more options.

Approximately 20 percent of consumer email addresses go bad each year, says Eric Arnum, editor of EMMS (Electronic Mail & Messaging Systems).

ActiveNames is not only free, but simple to use. Becoming an ActiveNames member is easy. An Internet user may register at www.activenames.net by selecting an ActiveName, such as +Joe, record their present email address, and then install the ActiveNames software by downloading it from the web site. From then on, any ActiveNames member who uses +Joe as an e-mail address will always reach Joe directly. The member does not need to know the ActiveNames address of the recipient (in our example, +Joe). Any address Joe includes in his "email trail" will lead his incoming messages to the correct destination.
